If Detroit wins tonight the series is essentially over, they've got a tough task in front of them though.
I hope Malkin doesn't wake up all of a sudden and start putting up huge points.

I also want to add something about how classy it is for the NHL to be holding a moment of silence in the memory of Canucks defenseman/prospect Luc Bourdon. He was killed in a motorcycle accident two days ago at the age of 21. It's so sad to see a kid die that young. Apparently his girlfriend was driving behind him when a gust of wind caused him to lose control of his motorbike, cross the yellow line, and slam head-on into a tractor-trailer near his home of Shippagan, NB. He was killed instantly. My heart goes out to her and to his entire family, as well as his friends.
RIP Luc Bourdon 1987-2008

Very sad, a promising career and life cut short. Wish the best for his family and friends.
Yes CFH, I must admit that it doesn't look good for the Pens. Didn't get to see the game as the party I was having the Kimbo Slice thingy was more of a draw. Pens really needed this game. Detroit is just too strong I believe for them to make a comeback.
I suppose we'll see.

The Pens are done, I'd be amazed if they made a comeback. I think that I predicted Detroit in 6 earlier, maybe I'll actually be right with a prediction for once.
When I was a kid Detroit was my favorite team, I still remember how they went from a terrible team to a dynasty under the leadership of Steve Yzerman, who to this day is my favorite all-time player. The Canucks are my team now, but Detroit and Boston will always be my 2nd teams because I loved them as a kid.

If the Penquins would cut loose their speed, they might climb back in to this.
Not that I have a betting stake,my teams are the Islanders and the Flyers

Looks like the Wings have the series clinched. Malkin was asleep the whole series, I really think that was a major reason the Pens couldn't compete more evenly.
Malkin seems like one of those guys that only plays when he wants to. Kind of Like Jagr...all the skill in the world but the lack of consistent intensity is what makes a player great in the NHL. Malkin isn't really a 'team' player, just kind of plays for himself..
I do have to give props to Detroit. They have been dominant so long and did it through intelligent team building..I dont like them but they built their team the real way, really dont know how they managed to do it.
Truth is the Penguins lucked out by finishing last for years in a row and as a result were rewarded Crosby and Malkin![]()

I thought Malkin played with a good energy but just made to many stupid mistakes letting pucks past and if I'm not mistaken it was him who failed to clear it on that second goal. He looked like he belonged on San Jose.
But the series was lost when they squandered that 5 on 3. I don't care if you are a Jr. league team, if the cup depends it and you have 1:30 of 5 on 3, you have to get more then two shots on goal. That was basically the nail in the coffin when they let that opportunity go.

The Penguins are just young. It's the old sports adage, "you have to lose before you can win." This experience will prove invaluable to the Pens down the road, I'd be amazed if they didn't win at least one cup in the next 5-10 years. Even the Gretzky-led Oilers lost in the finals before they went on to dominate for the better part of a decade.
Also, I think Malkin must be injured. If not, and he's just tired/poorly conditioned or unmotivated, then the Pens should trade him ASAP as his value will never be higher.
I've only watched this series sparingly but from what I've seen, Malkin is playing utterly horseshit hockey. He should go back to what he does best -- slewfooting people.

Now I am a self admitted fair weather fan of the Pens, but they really grew on me this season and I think I will be actively following them from here on.
What I am trying to say: I really want them to trade Malkin. Malkin and Crosby have no chemistry whatsoever. Malkin actually lacks chemistry with the whole team. Im not sure if he doesn't trust the other players, thinks he can do it better, or is just selfish; but I have seen him give away the puck a TON this postseason either trying to do a team job himself or by making bad passes and failing to clear the puck which multiple times just against the Red Wings have resulted in them scoring.
He has got sick skill, he and Ovechkin have the most "flash" skill in the NHL. The thing is Malkin seems to lack Passion, at least he has in the last 2 rounds in the playoffs. I think he would have much rather been playing with Russia in that international tournament than with the Pens for "merely" the Stanley Cup![]()
