He was only 27 or 28, seems a bit strange he would retire so suddenly. Considering in a interview after the Richie Sandoval fight he said he would be back.
Jeff Chandler to me was a very talented fighter, although at times his mind seemed to be elsewhere. And he didn't take every fight seriously but when he was at his best, he was a great fighter to watch, and he seemed to have it all.
I know the loss to Richie Sandoval was a disappointing loss, and he seemed shot in that fight. But surely he could of comeback ? i mean he did it vs Oscar Muniz and Eijiro Murata.
And Richie Sandoval himself didn't have a long career, he took a hammering off Gaby Canizales. A fighter Jeff Chandler outpointed.
But can anyone tell me why he retired so suddenly ? also what did you think of him as a fighter ? and how he would of fared with the likes of Lupe Pintor ?
