Anthony Yarde urges people to stay at home after father dies from coronavirus

British boxer Anthony Yarde has announced that his father has passed away after contracting coronavirus.

The 28-year-old said his father was healthy and suffering from no underlying health issues and urged people to stay at home and stop ignoring lockdown measures.

“I’m a very private person and TBH I’m still in shock but maybe this can help people stay home,” Yarde wrote on Instagram.

“My dad passed away from this virus yesterday and he was fit with no health issues. The more people go out and mingle the longer this isolation will last and the more it will spread.

“I’m not a doctor but I do know if you stay home you are less likely to catch it or pass it on. It’s seriously not worth the risk.”

A statement released by Yarde’s promoter, Frank Warren, read: “Frank Warren and everyone at Queensberry Promotions would like to express sincere condolences to Anthony Yarde and his family after the untimely passing of his father.

“Coronavirus is an issue affecting all of us, but that doesn’t make the individual casualties any less tragic.

“We hope that his fans listen to Anthony’s heartfelt plea for people to take the government’s advice seriously so we can try and minimise the suffering of others.”

Yarde, who has won 19 of his 20 professional fights, was scheduled to fight for the Commonwealth light heavyweight title at the O2 Arena in April before the event was postponed due to the pandemic.

A further 260 deaths were confirmed in the United Kingdom on Saturday, taking the death toll to 1,019, with over 17,000 cases reported in total.

Ways coronavirus is different from influenza:

    1. More deadly to the elderly and people with compromised immunity systems or health conditions

    2. More contagious than the flu

    3. Less dangerous to children than the flu

    4. More painful and more damaging to the lungs

Spain had it's worst day with 913 deaths.

USA had 573 deaths and 20,353 new cases. By the end of the week, USA may be having over 1000 deaths per day.

Canada had it's worst day yesterday as well.

563 dead today in the UK, and the day is not over yet.

I have a lot of relatives in the UK, I hope they'll be okay.

1,355 died in France today from coronavirus.

France's totals reported in past days have been lower than the real number, because until today they were only counting COVID-19 deaths in hospitals, not adding deaths outside hospitals.

I think many countries are under-reporting.

One of my wife’s coworkers interacted with someone who is now on a ventilator with the wuhan virus. He’s out for a while.

Yes. Italy being a prime example for instance.

I saw that. Yet, there are relatively few cases in equatorial African countries, like heavily-populated Nigeria.

    What is the reason?

I know airborne viruses don't stay in the air long in warm humid air, like they do in cool dry air. That's why there are more people with colds and influenza in winter than summer.

But although COVID-19 is airborne to a degree, it is said to spread mainly people touching surfaces like doorknobs.

USA had 1970 deaths yesterday, and may surpass 2000 today. A frightening 45,870 new cases in the USA today.

14,508 have died in the USA so far.

More Americans have died in the US from Covid-19 in the past week, than died in all the wars of the 21st century (Iraq, Afghanistan).
