    Default RIP Phillip Hughes

Tragic news that Aussie batsman Phillip Hughes has died a couple of days after being hit in the head from a bouncer during a domestic game. Obviously the first and foremost thoughts are with him, his family and friends but fuck me what about Sean Abbott (the bowler) How does he ever run in again?

Tragic. Sad loss. Saw him play live a couple of times.

As for the bowler I just don't know how he could play again, poor guy.

This made the news in the US. I was surprised, I never thought of crickett as a dangerous sport. Poor guy, my condolences to his family.

Less so in recent years. But the ball is very hard (much harder than a baseball for instance) and is bowled at 90+ MPH. Broken bones are common but head injuries are fairly rare.

Funnily enough I think if he had been hit in the head he probably would have been alright, he got it in the top of the neck.

It's a horrible way to die! And at such a young age he had potential to improve as a player, May he RIP.

Cricket is a massive sport in my household , my stepdad use to play for Warwickshire when he was younger, my step grandad use to play for Yorkshire, it's funny he's called Peter sutcliffe and you can imagine what he got called? My little brother also plays for Lancashire and they are all stunned by what happened, it's really sad.

I use to do a bit of cricket for southport cc and my school, I remember one time I didn't wear a box and I got a ball fully balled into my bollocks and to this day I've never felt pain like that in my life. Getting punched in the head is nothing compared to that pain haha.

Very sad. His strength when given width meant a bowlers job was to bowl at his body/head. Abbott was doing his job, with tragic consequences. It is no comfort, but Hughes' injury was that rare, that there has only been 100 or so known similar injuries.

.....and only ONE as the result of a Cricket ball impacting.

It's as safe as they are ever going to make it but of course that will be of little comfort to his family or the poor guy who bowled that fateful over

Real sad ending, his family were all there watching when it occurred ,I feel for them and the bowler the most as they all have to live with it.
    RIP.

It is very rare to get seriously injured never mind killed being bowled at. Freakish accident to get hit at the back of the neck.

Damn, I had no idea it hit ninety plus. That's big league material. I thought it was thrown underhand, can't see it getting that fast. I need to look more into it, I'm American, I know duck all about crickett
