White Heavyweight Championship of the world - 1913 Pelky vs McCarty
Tommy Burns's Arena, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
McCarty was pronounced dead about eight minutes after the knockout, which came after about 2 minutes of fighting. The coroner's jury decided that no blow had been responsible for McCarty's collapse, but that death was due to a hemorrhage of the brain, probably caused by a previous injury. When told in his hotel room that McCarty had died, Pelkey broke down and cried like a child. The next day Tommy Burns's Arena was destroyed by fire; arson was suspected. Calgary Herald.
