Default I've been watching Ultimate Fighter 3 and....

God DAMN they fight so fucking sloppy!

Yeah 5 minute rounds of PURE CRAP.

It's 100% like The Contender....but the good points are that they show the full fight and they fight hard.

I just don't get how you can like 3 round fights and especially if they are that sloppy

Actually...I don't like 3 round fights (or 5 for a title shot :P). I a HUGE fan of either the Pride 15 minute round, then 5 minute round with a 5 minute tie breaker (I'm pretty sure thats how it works) and an even BIGGER fan of the oldschool UFC "fight till it's done" method. Rounds work against the ground submission guys, who tend to work slowly and methodically.

In defense of these guys, though, 5 minutes of MMA is a lot like what 3 minutes boxing rounds are to an average person...it doesn't seem like much until you actually do it. Considering that these guys train full time for this, and many of them can't finish the fight at full steam goes to show that.

And yeah...the Ultimate Fighter guys are generally pretty poor fighters, that's why they're on the reality show instead of winning big in the Pay Per Views.

Edit: Pride uses a 10, 5, 5 minute round system now, apparently.
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?

The longer the round the more the holding and clinching and BLAH BLAH BLAH....it's shit is what it is.

I like PUNCHES and when I don't like punching I like Elbow strikes and then kicks and then grappling.....grappling is just above hair pulling, eye gouging and crying for your mother!!!!

I cried out for my mother last night in a nightmare. Woke the wife, the dog and the baby.

If you don't like grappling, then don't watch mixed martial arts :P

And I'm not trying to be one of those "If you don't love America, then GET OUT" kinda guys.
But MMA is like 2/3 grappling 1/3 striking, and that 1/3 striking tends to be about 75% "sloppy." So if sound technical striking is your thing, watch boxing or K1. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed by almost all but the freakshow matches (speaking of which....Butterbean vs Hunt...look to download it soon...that has the potential to be the mother f'in brawl of the century)

Yeah the reason there is more grappling is not because it's good it's just easier to do for 5 minute rounds.

    I hate K-1 too

It just seems to me that the fighters are good at one thing or another but don't fight in styles that help them use that

Can't stand it... it's easier than standing up and 'striking' as you like to call it and horrible to watch.

You should rename it to 'crappling'

John Ruiz would be the Champion of Pride, UFC, and anything else that involves grappling....that's how bad it is

For the record, I enjoy the stand up aspect of MMA a LOT more than the ground game, but in all fairness, Adam, grapplers watch boxing and feel the same exact way you do about it. They feel boxing is just a slugfest that any idiot can do, and they fight so many rounds because it's so easy they can go that long, or others feel they only fight in 3 minute rounds because their conditioning sucks.

If you don't understand exactly whats going on in the ground game, that's cool, and I can't expect you to enjoy it. Kind of like NASCAR (or so my hick friends told me)....if you know what's going on, it can be pretty exciting stuff, but to the average person, its rednecks driving 200 mile an hours left forever. That's because they don't see all the little things that mean something to the fans that understand the sport. With grappling, even the slightest movements can mean huge things...a slight twist of the hips might mean a sweep or an armbar attempt is coming, or sliding your feet a few inches up to get your guard around his chest instead of his stomache probably means a triangle choke is coming. Same thing with the guy on the top...he may look like he's sissy fighting with the guy on bottom (or more likely, you call it "gay secks"), but every little movement means something. But if you aren't able to see and understand it, it looks like a softcore gay porno.

So I know you guys don't like it, and it doesn't interest you, which is fine. But at least give the guys some respect, and try not to act like a couple ignorami, because it makes you, in our eyes, look like what grapplers are in your eyes.

Your right . not a good watch.. looks like a collage bar room brawl. very sloppy and un sporting. K1 is slightly better, just my opinion. I dont like all that legs wrapping around each other and the bare feet grosse me out. Feet are fucking nasty and need to be covered at all times in my opinion. I would hate someones grungy fungies in my face ! i would submit on that alone.

I guess when it all comes down to it very few are actually "MMA" fighters it's a bunch of guys who are more boxers than wrestlers, more wrestlers than boxers, more ju jitsu than strikers etc.

Both sides have their fine points but I've never really been a Wrestling fan.

UFC is a good idea in principle....it's like a real life Jean Claude Van Dam movie mixed with WWE and a touch of boxing. It's everything everyone should love but sometimes the fights are boring.

I'm not a fan of the "ground and pound"...submissions are decent though

ANY sport, on any given day, can bore us to tears.

There are aspects to each I like. It's amazing to see a grea BJJ guy turn a bad situation around in a split second to tap a guy. Or two great boxers slugging it out inside, like Ward and Gatti, or a great kick like only CroCop can do. But there are plenty of yawners.... the ground and pound can get slow and a boxing match can turn into a chess match. You have to take the good with the bad.

CC Von...that pretty much sums it up. Not everyone will like every aspect of every sport, and even the best ones can bore you to death sometimes :P
