    Default Did Dubois quit???

A Fractured orbital bone and nerve damage.

Will all future opponents chase that left eye?

He’s young enough to bounce back but surely the tactics after the first few rounds should have changed.

Move your head and through some feints!

    Would you have continued fighting?

Yes Dubois quit but there is no shame in that. He was beaten by the better man and Dubois just did not have enough experience to manage out the last few rounds.

Dubois could have got a more serious injury if he carried on and did the sensible thing.

Far better fighters have come back and he can learn from this experience.

Dubois had little head movement to avoid the jab and could not get his own powerful jab/combinations going.

Take a knee and the loss to come back stronger. He is young enough to improve.

    Totally agree.

He always had issues with head movement.

Joyce has an weird style and his jab looked strange at times but it was extremely effective with 18st behind it!

Thought Dubois would have been too frisky for Joyce. But apparently Joyce is not an Olympic silver medalist for nothing.

Those jabs by Joyce looked like point scoring taps but he must be very heavy handed because the damage from them started in round 1. If he can land them on Usyk he will give him problems.

He did quit, but greater fighters than Dubois have quit before now & they went on to achieve great things.

I'm not bestowing greatness upon Dubois just yet, as he hasn't done anything to warrant that, just to be clear.

That eye will definitely be a problem going forwards.

As we have seen with Kell Brook, that damage seems to be lasting, if not physically, certainly psychologically.

    He quit 100%

    But he isn’t good enough.

Joyce is a 35 year old prospect.

I think if he continues in boxing he is going to end up very badly hurt.

The blueprint to beat him is so basic as proven last night.

    Flicking jab.

Yes but it’s the question on whether or not it was acceptable. I completely understand why he quit, but at that age with the amount of desire you should have to win, it doesn’t look great. I think it proved that he will never reach the top because he looked like he wanted to quit for half of the fight.

Acceptable to who? No one elses opinion on acceptability means fuck all.

Dubios thought it was acceptable and that’s all the matters.

I do believe he shouldn’t continue boxing, unless it’s purely for paydays.

He can learn to adjust and come back stronger?

    Jab ruined him.

Did Joyce even use his right hand?

Dubois did quit but he did it for the right reasons.

Brook did quit but he did it for the right reasons.

    Khan just quit.

Yeah he quit. But it should never have come to that. The ref saw that eye closed for at least 6 rounds and not once did he take a look or get a doctor to take a look.
Ok , maybe DDD Should have just gone for it , shit or bust earlier, die on his sword , yadda, yadda. But he hasn’t got the experience or ring IQ to do that.
More importantly and this is the real scandal, that at 21 years old, he doesn’t have the stamina to go for an all out attack.
    2 disgraces here, 1. The ref . & 2. DDD’s lack of Stamina.
But his quitting was not in that category.

It's not a fair question to ask in hindsight.

At the time of the fight, anyone who said that he quit were perfectly justified in saying so, because no-one, not even Dubois himself knew what the problem was.

In hindsight, he did the right thing, but it doesn't alter the fact that he did quit.

Hopefully he can recover fully & resume his career, because he seems really dedicated to the sport & comes across as a decent guy.

Looking at the comments on the BBC news thread about this .... loving all the criticism about 'quitting' from keyboard warriors who have never set foot in a boxing ring in their life

Fans opinion for sure matter because that’s how he gets his paycheck. If everyone just views him as a quitter that is overrated then he loses a lot of future money.

With that said, he made his decision to quit which is up to him. My point was that long before he quit, he looked like he wanted to quit. It’s not like Brook where he was completely game but eventually quit because of his eye socket. Dubois seemed to want an out for a while.
