Default Lawrence Okolie vs Eddie Hearn/Matchroom

It seems the Lawrence Okolie vs Eddie Hearn/Matchroom Boxing saga will finally reach a resolution.

The feud began when Okolie‘s contract with Matchroom Boxing came to an end after his fight against Michal Cieslak earlier this year, or so it seemed.

In a recent interview with IFL TV, Okolie revealed that at first, Matchroom Boxing acknowledged the end of his contract and began to renegotiate.

But, when Okolie explained the he had been presented with a better offer elsewhere, Matchroom then disputed that his contract was not over and he still owed them one more fight.

This was due to the fact that they did not believe his 2020 bout against Nikodem Jezewski counted as part of the contract.

Okolie explained: “I’ve got a new deal that I presented, I said, ‘Matchroom, you don’t even need to match these numbers, just get close and I’ll stay with you.’

“They said, ‘Absolutely not, if you wanna take that new deal, you’re gonna have to pay my company £500,000’.”

Okolie went on to compare the situation to when Hearn and Matchroom Boxing decided to part ways with their long-term broadcast partner, Sky, due to DAZN offering more money.

“Our contract’s come to an end, you either pay more or I move on,” Okolie said.

“Eddie Hearn of all people should really understand.

“He was with Sky for years, had amazing shows, built up a host of fighters. Then a $1billion cheque came and Eddie ran off to DAZN.”

This dispute has meant that Okolie has not fought since February earlier this year, but it seems a resolution will be found soon and the WBO cruiserweight world champion has purse bids next week for his next fight against mandatory challenger, David Light.

I don't dislike Okolie by any means.

But who has presented him with a better offer?
    Saeurland?

I don't think anyone finds him compelling viewing and I don't see anyone giving him the platform Eddie did.
