    Default Imagine boxing was 20 rounds..or 6?

Imagine they changed the rules tomorrow and made boxing 20 rounds..or even 6?

Obviously, a fighter would have to make adjustments to their styles in each case but the 20 rounders would be a physical attribute not all boxers would achieve.

Stamina must be one of the factors in a 20 round fight and also in a 6 round fight if your exerting more energy trying to knock each other out quicker.

For my 20 round fighter (i will give mayweather a rest this time) and go for calzaghe. As much as he annoys me for ducking a few fighters (imho)
i cant ignore his duracell battery fighting stamina and boxing skills.

For my 6 rounder there are loads of oldies to choose from and current fighters but i got to go with tyson.
He was built for 6 rounds with such great head movement with pendulam power shots its a beautiful thing.

Who would be the best fighters at 20 rounds and the best at 6 rounds?

Please give one answer for each and explain your choice..

    Thanks.

20 rounders would feel like a snail pace if we watched them in comparison to 12 rounders. I think Hopkins may flourish!

6 rounders would suit Khan who are fast and are less likely to get knocked out.

Sounds cool but it depends on whose fighting..

I can't imagine watching Hopkins fight for more than 12 rounds. That shit would be so boring.

Michael Phelps would be the king of 6 rounders. It doesn't matter that he can't fight, that guy has swam so much there is no way he wouldn't hold his own with anyone.

De La hoya would be the greatest boxer of alltime with a six round bout.

Dunno. Random a 154 Winky Wright or a Glen Johnson for 20, Ricardo Lopez.

He always runs out of gas late, watch the fights between

    Mosley 1 and 2
    Mayweather
    Hopkins
    Trinidad which was bizarre

The only time I saw him finish strong was against Quartey although I still saw him lose.

The Great Joe Louis who passed on in 1981 fought in the last Heavyweight Championship bout scheduled for 20 rds. It didn't go 20 rds though.

The Manassa Mauler Jack Dempsey (who passed in 1983), his early record in the 19-teens is full of early KOs in bouts scheduled for 4 rds, but that was because in California, 4 rounders were all the state allowed.
Naturally you can't afford to give up a few rds in a 4 rd fight, so these guys would tear each other apart, knowing they only had to keep the pace for 4 rds.

I think 15 rds was the optimal duration for a Championship fight.

"The fight don't really start until the 12th. After the 12th, your balls are tight, your @$$hole locks up, and you want nothing more than to cry. The 13th-15th is what separates a man from a boy." - Mike "The Body-Snatcher" McCallum.

Pressure fighters like Margarito, Glencoffe Johnson, Andrade are the kind of guys that would benefit from bouts scheduled for longer durations.
Nowadays they run out of time. Just when they get the guy where they want him , ie in BIG TROUBLE, they run out of time.
Pressure fighters often got the guy out of there in rd 13 or 14 after absorbing a lot of punishment themselves.

All time I'd probably take Jeanette in the marathon and Saddler in the sprint.

These modern times Cal is a good pick @imp. I'd have to give that category a little more thought. Probably Jofre in the marathon and Tyson in the sprint.

    Almost forgot. Interesting question.

I'd take ricardo Lopez, among more recent fighters, at either distance. He was smart and knew how to fight, to create openings and exploit them, and how to take his time and be patient. He could take his time right away.

if bxg had been 20 rounds Rocky Marciano would never be beaten not by Lewis or Louis or Ali or anybody as he would just hang in there tough as nails until they pissed their load and cried Uncle!
