@Gandalf right on bro.
I don't think that question will ever be answered.
If we go by end result: No man has ever been injured the way Jess Willard was against Dempsey: broken orbital bone, fractures, teeth(several) knocked out...
Not saying Dempsey hits harder than Shavers or Tua or Tyson, or Wlad.. hell sounds like loaded gloves, but we dont know that either...so how else can a question be answered without it being subjective as opposed to objective?
I never said he was not a puncher. On the contrary, his punch seemed to be the ONLY thing he had going for him at all. I said his power dropped off remarkably in the realm of what we TODAY call HW.
I said he failed against heavy opposition. And he failed against quality opposition.
He was a cruiser-cruncher
He was a bum-buster
Almost exclusively!

LOL...... @Max Power
Are you still arguing against what Ali, Holmes, and Lyle were all quoted as saying??
Give it a rest, bro.
Once again.... pick your battles. When you start saying that three former fighters are full of shit for saying that Shavers was the one who punched them the hardest...... what are you arguing against? This isn't a fan's point of view, or even PhD in punching power. These are the actual recipients of the punches, expressing their own, personal opinion.
Do you play poker? Are you familiar with the old Kenny Rogers song?
That would be my advice to you.
George Chuvalo would have knocked his ass out and YOU ALL KNOW THIS

@Master
I thought you told me Frazier didn't duck hard punchers?

Based on mass size multiplied by KO results.
Earnie Shavers at > 6' 0 1/2" and 207 lbs.
Was, for his size, one of the Top 5 hardest punchers.
Now I like better what I am hearing Bill.
Except now the bench mark is different. Now your claiming Shavers is "lb for lb" the hardest puncher of all time.
I don't necessarily agree with that either! I think Tyson hit way WAY harder than Shavers and can't really see any way it could be otherwise. Shavers didn't LOOK like he hit harder than Tyson.
But in any case, this is a lot better than saying he hit harder than someone like Stiverne for instance, who would shake Shavers best punch off as if it were nothing and then knock his head off into the cheap seats immediately after LOL

I stated that Earnie was one of the Top 5 'hardest hitters' based on
his size and mass.
By using 'quantom mechanics' coupled with torque, equals mass force.
Earnie is right up there.
'Round 3'
Both fighters meet at Center-Ring.
'Irish Pat' decides to test Earnie's chin, and starts off by wailing away
with a fast flurry.
The punches bounce off of Earnie's head, but he is not bothered by the
blows.
'Irish Pat' slams another hard flurry into Earnie, and then backs out fast.
Earnie trudges forward, and is starting to put aggressive pressure on Pat
who is backing away slowly.
At the {1:40 Mark}, Earnie slams in a hard left-hook, and digs a hard right
into Pat's side. Pat gasps, and circles to his left.
Earnie 'zings' Pat with a looping right-hand. Pat is shaken, and grabs onto
Earnie's arms, and holds on until the Referee breaks them apart at the
{2:05 Mark}.
Earnie starts working {one-two's} into Pat at the {2:30 Mark}.
Earnie traps Pat along the Ropes, and starts slamming him with hard blows
to the upper-body and face.
At the bell, Pat looks weary and his face is red.
