    Default Terrible Agony: Body snatchers

Who in the history of boxing was/is known to go to the body as a fundamental part of their style? Perhaps I'm still not learned enough, but in most boxing matches... I've seldom seen THE body shot every boxer and announcer always cringe at just talking about it.

As a related question: Is it just technically harder to get to the body since the elbows naturally rest within the ideal area of attack? Is it a matter of sacrificing too much defense (I would assume punching down is always a risky ordeal)? What is it?

Thank you for your time and replies.

Probably one of the best examples I know of is watching how Micky Ward delivered a body shot. Hatton emulated it on occasions too. Quick short left tap to the side of the opponents head to bring their arm up and then he was already bringing his left hand back down and slamming it in to the open space left as the opponent lifts his arm to defend the tap. Almost all in one motion.

Have a watch of Micky Ward vs Alfonso Sanchez. Ward getting pasted, round after round pretty much, and then SLAM, its over.

I'm sure someone will be along with a much better explanation than that though.

It was definitely Hatton's Ace in the pack. Great way to finish a fight and ironically a similar shot brought the curtain down on his own career.

Hatton's one on Castillo is a perfect example. You really haven't seen many? I've seen plenty of examples of this.

Khan's right-left body shots that floored Maidana in the first round was one of the best examples I've seen, I didn't think Maidana would get up from that.

Really disappointed in that fight that after that round, he barely went to the body at all. Maidana could have been done early if he had. Wonder what made him decide not to throw any more to the body that night. I cant think of another occasion where I've seen a double body shot either side like that before to be honest.

The best body snatcher was, IMO, predictably enough, The Bodysnatcher Mike McCallum.

If you wanna see a guy go ferocious to the body without leaving himself open, watch McCallum fight. His body punching was a work of art.

It really is a killer blow if you get caught properly.

I had a fight with my Brother once and he smashed me full power with a body shot bare knuckle..!!

    Seriously painful

Basically your fucked if you get caught with a good one

If Khan had 10 more seconds left in the round than what was left he'd have won that fight by 1st round stoppage. Maidana was against the ropes and not throwing back. People remember what happened in the 10th round more than the 1st in that fight.

Roy Jones cracking out Virgil Hill.

Bute's one of the best body attackers right now.

McCallum broke people down with it and finsihed them off with head punches like Watson. JCC Snr and Tyson were vicious body punchers too.

Skip to about 9 minutes in, one of the great bodyshot KO's of all time!
