Texas Explosion: Fatalities Reported In Blast At Fertilizer Plant (VIDEO)

Damn..... the guy filming this video was at least a half mile away, it looks like. Apparently he wasn't far enough. That fertilizer is some nasty shit (no pun intended). If I'm not mistaken, it was the same stuff used by Tim McVeigh in the Oklahoma City bombing back in 1995.

As far as I know this was an industrial accident, no foul play. West is little Texas town (Pop about 3,000) 20 miles north of Waco, or about 120 miles or so from where I live in East Texas. I read that 14 people were killed from the blast and 200 more injured. It's a horrible disaster, I was sad to hear about it.

I hope it was just an industrial accident but that is very dangerous place to live near.

I felt sorry for the police and firefighters who were attending the original blaze. They had no chance when that explosion went off.

Yes that is very sad indeed and why it is a dangerous occupation.

Absolutely. Everyone else gets to get as far away as possible. The firefighters have no choice but to try and contain the blaze. It's got to be a horrible, helpless feeling... knowing the explosion could come at any time. It's little consolation, but at least one can hope that all the deaths were instantaneous.

Let this be a lesson, theses plants need to be on industrial estates well away from habitation,
hell that explosion looked like a atom bomb had gone off,!
That's the thing no mater how safe we think chemical plants are, it's devastating when things go wrong
very sad for all them people, I hope they can all get back to normal.

This fertilizer plant must have been an accident waiting to happen, barring any future news about arson, et al, safety could not have been the 1st priority there. I'm sure all of that will change now that this has happened, so maybe something good will come out of the disaster.

    You'll find this interesting, Mars.

Last Inspection of West, Texas Fertilizer Plant Was In 1985

It's too bad these things have to happen before corrective actions are taken.
Kinda like closing the barn door after the horse is gone.
