Ever since I read Hemingway's book on bullfighting, it has fascinated me. The way he described how a bull can be left or right horned, and how they learn to uses their horns like a boxer's punches. How the really good matadors pass the bull so close that they get blood on their chests, how the whole system of passing and turning the bull is planned and done to get him to lower his head to expose the vertebrae for the kill shot. And how, to kill properly, you have to go over the horns, so that if he tosses his head you get got. You have to bring some to get some, in other words, and only a coward kills by sidestepping.
He thought that the introduction of padding on the horses ruined the nature of the sport, and that modern matadors were sissies because they wanted small statured, shorter horned bulls.
