I'll say 2 because he thought he could stay right in front of him. I thought he could too. But Marcos has gotten so much better. I thought it was an illusion but it isn't. He has a good jab now. Combine that with power and a will to walk through walls and you have something.
The very few times Floyd moved laterally it was one sided but face to face it was even and awesome.
I agree with old age and underestimating Maidana.
THE biggest reason though was Maidana showing NO RESPECT and NO FEAR.
No one has done that in many years, even Cotto showed Floyd a great deal of respect.
Floyd did not have the intimidation/ invincible factor going for him this time. That's how upsets happen. 40 or more of 45 opponents never truly believed they could win.
Maidana believed.
I had this fight scored a draw.... if Maidana had won rounds 11 like he did 12, he would have won by one point on my cards.
With that being said, I knew it would have gone something like this. Maidana is good at what he does, and Floyd can't deal very well with volume punchers- Maidana, Manny, Agustus were volume punchers.
When you can average 60 punches a round against Floyd, you are in the fight. For real.
Bigger man George, bigger punch!

Maidana didn't land all that much. It wasn't that close
Mayweather struggle is part illusion. Maidana did well. He pressure Mayweather and landed his punches. The fact that it's been years since anybody did that to Floyd makes many believe he really struggled. In reality he didn't struggle. He was just in a hard fight. Boxing is suppose to be hard. It's just been so easy for him for so long it's a shock when he has a hard one
He didn't land as much as he should've. Those clubbing overhand punches against the ropes were worthless. What he should've done is stepped back and evened out his shots and focused on the body more against the ropes. That being said, Floud did feel his power and showed it by grasping.
He didn't land anywhere near 225 punches....get your eyes checked.
Floyd had the better body attack by far and landed the cleanest and HARDEST punches.
Mayweather didn't get hit with anything stupid.
Floyd beat Maidana at his own game.
Maidana had all the chances he could ask for and couldn't get it done.
I think age was a factor as well as maidana's size advantage. Floyd deserved to win but it was definitely his toughest fight in a long time. Maidana has a good enough chin to be able to take some of mayweathers shots and keep pressuring him. He is also pretty quick unlike canelo who didn't have the speed to catch mayweather.
Not as dominant as I expected (I thought it might be a late KO) but still a clear victory for Floyd (some wad reckons it was a "draw" above, must be C J Ross's husband lol).
You should have added a FOURTH possibility...
Imo the most accurate one...
4. Maybe, just maybe, he had a bad night.. And maybe in addition, Marcos had a good night. That's life!
Seems like a passable reason to me for the champ.
But credit to Maidana, he's no fluke now, he's a serious factor in the division.
His performance against Floyd will probably make Broner feel a little better now LOL. Maybe we'll hear that mouth open again soon!!
