Conor McGregor's manager launches lawsuit against Manny Pacquiao

Conor McGregor's manager Audie Attar has filed a lawsuit against Manny Pacquiao after he agreed to fight Errol Spence Jr instead of Mikey Garcia

Conor McGregor's manager Audie Attar has filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Manny Pacquiao ahead of his scheduled welterweight title fight against Errol Spence Jr.

Attar, who runs Paradigm Sports, is seeking to recoup a $3.3 million advance whilst also looking to stop Pacquiao's bout with Spence Jr this summer, which is set to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

In the lawsuit filed in Orange County, California Attar claims he was negotiating for Pacquiao to meet four-division champion Mikey Garcia, according to the Athletic.

Attar also suggests that competing Pacquiao associates directed him back to boxing manager Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions and he signed to fight unbeaten WBC/IBF champion Spence.

In the lawsuit, Paradigm attorney Judd Burstein wrote, “In addition to the millions of dollars in straightforward economic loss that Paradigm stands to suffer, the damage to its reputation resulting from Pacquiao’s breaches is incalculable.

"Just when Paradigm was at the cusp of establishing itself as a major player in professional boxing, Pacquiao has left its reputation as a boxing representative in tatters.”

Pacquiao's attorney Dale Kinsella said in a statement: "The complaint filed by Paradigm Sports in California state court on Friday is a frivolous effort to interfere with Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming mega fight, and it can and will fail for numerous reasons.

"Moreover, had Manny Pacquiao known that Paradigm Sports appears to have had no intention of fulfilling its contractual obligations, he never would have entered into any relationship with them.

"Should this matter actually proceed beyond Friday’s filing in a court of law, Mr. Pacquiao will vigorously defend this action, assert his own claims against Paradigm Sports, and seek to recover his attorney’s fees as well.”

The lawsuit alleges that Pacquiao was never obliged to fight again for Premier Boxing Champions unless the opponent was Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Pacquiao and Paradigm joined forces in February 2020, according to the claim, and originally pursued a four-fight deal with DAZN that would start with a bout against Garcia.

Attar was also looking to schedule a contest between Pacquiao and McGregor, but the Irishman's trilogy fight with Poirier on July 10 put pay to that.

Manny Pacquiao responds to legal action from Conor McGregor's manager

McGregor's management company believes Pacquiao has breached his contract by agreeing to fight Errol Spence in August

Manny Pacquiao has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Conor McGregor's manager as "frivolous".

Pacquiao is scheduled to fight Errol Spence in Las Vegas in August but Audie Attar, who runs Paradigm Sports and who represents McGregor, has accused the Filipino of breaching his contract.

Attar is attempting to recoup a $3.3million advance and prevent his client facing world champion Spence.

But in a statement, Pacquiao hit back, insisting: "Paradigm Sports' lawsuit against me has no merit. I have an absolute right under the agreement with Paradigm to engage in the upcoming bout with Errol Spence.

"If this frivolous lawsuit continues, I will be proven correct in court."

In the lawsuit filed in California Attar claims he was negotiating for Pacquiao to meet four-division champion Mikey Garcia.

Paradigm lawyer Judd Burstein wrote: "In addition to the millions of dollars in straightforward economic loss that Paradigm stands to suffer, the damage to its reputation resulting from Pacquiao’s breaches is incalculable.

"Just when Paradigm was at the cusp of establishing itself as a major player in professional boxing, Pacquiao has left its reputation as a boxing representative in tatters."

Pacquiao has long been linked with a fight with Garcia and a deal appeared close last summer before the pandemic struck.

He also held talks over a mega-fight with McGregor himself but those swiftly ended when the Irishman was stopped by Dustin Poirier earlier this year.

Attar's lawsuit alleges that Pacquiao was never obliged to fight again for Premier Boxing Champions unless the opponent was Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Pacquiao and Paradigm joined forces in February 2020, according to the claim, and originally pursued a four-fight deal with DAZN that would start with a bout against Garcia.

Pacquiao will start his fight with Spence as a betting underdog having not fought since summer 2019 when he outpointed Keith Thurman.

Spence defeated Garcia the same year before adding victories over Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia to preserve his unbeaten record.

He had hoped to face fellow welterweight world champion Terence Crawford but a deal for that fight remains elusive.

Anyone stop to ponder that if he win's convincingly where does Manny newly rank ATG. Saw that Ugas on undercard. Ortiz Jr? Maybe Jaron Ennis forming up for a clash? Cannot be denied 147 is heating up

If Manny wins then he ranks higher than Fraud Mayweather.

A shame that as soon as he left Arum he is in the same position as was before Arum- Think GBP Promotions suing to either get Pac or the money he accepted from GBP, then signed with another (Arum) based on that story- something is afoot.

As far as beating Spence - I think it depends on the individuals who ranked/didnt rank Spence as a top tier Champ. Poster like @Master, sure. he'e long considered him top tier and felt his one fight proved the accident had no impact.
I rank him high as well.

So if Pac beats him -it moves him nowhere on my ATG list. That is dependant on what Spence goes on to do. Like JCal with Bhop- the more Spence goes on to win the better it makes Pac look.

As of now, he is an exciting young man we overall felt needed Crawford fight to rank him as a great of this era. I concur.
As of today his best wins coming against both Garcias Porter & Brooke. Means he is handling his business by beating who is there -not who is great, so ironically a win over a faded Pac-; would that be Spence's best win?

Kind of a lose-lose fo him, Beat Pac and no one cares- he's past his prime. But lose to Pac -even a close loss wouldn't bode well.

Here is what is interesting- if Pac wins _ think this would be the 1st time he would hold WBC & IBF.
To me that is sad, now way should an ATG have failed to win multiple titles in the same division to which again he is like 0-2-2.

His entire career is based of WBO, Matthyse is how he got the WBA.

There is only one time he held 2 titles -one was the diamond belt, so how legit is that?

If spence loses from here on out - Pac should be seen as a fighter that didnt expose Spence- rather set the blueprint. Spence is good but has done absolutely nothing to warrant as ATG had he been forced to retire to the car accident.

    Spence wins.

Manny Pacquiao could be reinstated as WBA king before Errol Spence Jr fight after being made ‘champion in recess’

MANNY PACQUIAO could be handed back the WBA title before fighting Errol Spence Jr after being made 'champion in recess'.

Spence will put his WBC and IBF belts on the line against the Filipino legend on August 21 in Las Vegas.

The Ring Magazine also voted to have their title on the line, despite usually having the vacant belt contested only between their top two ranked fighters.

According to ESPN, a FOURTH strap could be on the line with the WBA's board of governors set to vote on the potential reinstatement of Pacquiao as their champ.

The governing body in January announced PacMan was stripped due to inactivity, with Yordenis Ugas, 34, upgraded from the WBA's secondary 'Regular' champion.

The WBA announced per their ruling, when a champ is unable to defend the belt for medical, legal or other reasons beyond his control, he may be named champion in recess.

Pacquiao has not returned to the ring since he won the title against Keith Thurman, 32, in July 2019.

But due to the coronavirus pandemic, he was not able to make a comeback - falling into the 'other reasons beyond his control' section.

With a unified welterweight title on the horizon against Spence, 30, Pacquiao, 42, may see the WBA vote to reinstate him.

The southpaw started his training camp in the Philippines before moving to Los Angeles to link up with long-time trainer Freddie Roach.

Pacquiao last week boarded a flight from the Philippines to LA but the plane was diverted to Japan due to a medical emergency.

Pacquiao and his team were then forced to stay at Haneda airport for three hours before having to fly back to Manila.

And according to Rapples, the 62-7 fighter then boarded another plane to America on Sunday.

He is set to begin training with Roach and strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune this week.

BOXING legend Manny Pacquiao has reunited with coach Freddie Roach ahead of his unification fight against Errol Spence Jr.

And the 42-year-old Filipino is looking electric in training with his old mentor.

Pacquiao begins his training camp in his homeland before flying over to the Wild Card gym in California for the fine tuning.

The welterweight scrap, with the WBC and IBF titles on the line, will take place on August 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Uploading a photo of some sparring, Pacquiao posted on Twitter: "Excited to be back at Wild Card Gym with coach Freddie!"

But his journey to the US wasn't as straightforward as the boxer might have hoped.

Spence jr. boasts a record of 27-0 with 21 knockouts and currently holds the WBC and IBF welterweight titles.

But Pacquiao was stripper of the WBA (Super) welterweight title, which he won in his last fight against Keith Thurman in 2019.

This was due to what the board deemed as 'inactivity'.

The Ring Magazine also voted to have their title on the line, despite usually having the vacant belt contested only between their top two ranked fighters.

Win, lose, or draw against Spence... Manny's legend is already etched in stone... and his legacy will remain intact. He'll be missed when he retires, also. Part of a dying breed that will fight anyone, anywhere... with little or no conditions ruining it for everybody. Never a diva... just a multi-weight champion who won most of his fights... but never had that shitty "0" to protect like a teenage girl's virginity. That in itself is part of what has messed up the sport. The fascination with that damned "0". Which is why some of history's best ATGs have had several losses under their belts.

That being said... I'd still bet on Spence winning this one.

They could've used a better photo op. From the back, Roach looks jacked. Looks like Hammer time in his alzheimers. While Pac looks like a middle aged xtra tall midget with an extra large head.

In all seriousness I'm a bit worried for his health- post boxing. Not like he has been some wonder defensive genius. Don't want to listen to a punch drunk Pac.

I can't forsee him winning this at all. If he did somehow, my lord. this would change my mind on not ranking him as a top 10 of all time.
    His era- easily makes it.

I call this the Roberto Duran legend status, where he is expected to lose these big fights at his age but if he pulls it off then it enhances his legacy. Only a few great fighters ever get to this stage.

Manny Pacquiao takes swipe at Floyd Mayweather ahead of Errol Spence clash

Manny Pacquiao has declared that Errol Spence doesn't need help from Floyd Mayweather, claiming that his opponent is a better fighter than the 50-0 legend.

The usually soft spoken Pacquiao is returning to the ring for a world title bout with Spence in Las Vegas on August 21, and he has previously expressed interest in a rematch with Mayweather.

Mayweather v Pacquiao in 2015 is still the highest grossing boxing event in history, and couldn't even be eclipsed by the American's fight with Conor McGregor in 2017.

And in the lead-up to his exhibition bout with Logan Paul last month, Mayweather said he was going to offer advice to Pacquiao's upcoming opponent Errol Spence, having been in there with him in the past.

And asked if Mayweather had been in contact, Spence told reporters at a press conference yesterday that he had yet to get a call, before Pacquiao interrupted him to say that he is in fact a superior fighter.

“I don’t think Errol needs advice from Floyd Mayweather," Pacquiao said. "I believe that Errol is a better fighter than Mayweather.

"Errol can teach Floyd how to fight toe-to-toe."

It comes after 50-0 boxing legend Mayweather aimed a sly jab at his former opponent in the post-fight press conference for his exhibition with Paul.

"Pacquiao at his age [42], which is sad, has to fight," he said. "I'm financially set, and I want to make everybody hear this.

"You're going to hear a lot of people say 'Floyd needed to do this', no, I'm well off.

"Every property that I have is paid for, my jet is paid for, all my cars are paid for, I own billion-dollar buildings, I own so much property, I've steadily invested in many different things.

"I'm invested in the tech world, I've made a lot of smart investments."

Pacquiao won't be overly focused on his feud with Mayweather over the next six weeks as he prepares to fight Spence for the world welterweight title.

“I don’t want to be overconfident, because Errol is too good of an opponent, he explained at the media event. "His determination and passion for the sport is always there.

"When I say I’m going to do something, it’s real and from the heart, it’s not to impress anybody.

“I had started training in the last week of May in the Philippines., so when I got here to Los Angeles, I was just continuing what I was doing.

"It’s good for me to have the rest that I’ve had the last two years. I’ve been boxing since I was 12 years old until now.

"When I went back to training, I was still hungry and dedicated."

The bout will be one of the highlights of the summer boxing calendar, especially with the recent postponement of Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder 3.

It goes down on August 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and will go head-to-head with WWE Summerslam, which takes place in the nearby Allegiant Stadium.
