    Default Did you know...

Did you know that James Scott was rated by the WBA in the Light Heavyweight division fighting as a professional while in jail...

In jail he defeated Mustafa Muhammad, Richie Kates, Bunny Johnson & Yaqui Lopez and in his final fight in jail he lost to Dwight Qawi. Several of his fights were televised on national tv.

Yeah I knew. KO magazine did a story on it one time. The Warden was said to be a big boxing fan. So he was all for it

I read about it, he fought the top fighters and no shame in losing to Quawi who was a beast. I guess in jail there are no diversions and all you can do is train.

Interesting as the two of them must have known each other. Same prison, same boxing program. Must have been a little surreal for Qawi to enter the same jail for a fight he was recently released from. @CutMeMick is right, several of his fights aired on ABC's Wild World of Sports.

Yeh when I first got interested I talked to a dude who knew a dude and traded for a couple of his NBC fights. Very interesting to see the recognition he got with being locked up. Shame they just pulled the rug out from under him and just shut him down and black balled him basically.

Ahh maybe it was Nbc. I remember at least 3 of them albeit vaguely laying on that 5 inch 70's shag rug.

He did close to 30 years and was released several years ago. Qawi oddly enough was his last fight.

Its crazy to think how they had to ship everyone in, the announcers etc?! They were all 'on location' I'd imagine. Can you imaging lil Paulie strolling down general population with his fohawk hairdo

They should make a film about him, hope he is doing well for himself.

He was kind of a regular on Saturday afternoon network boxing; IamInuit remembers three fights, but it seems like there were 5 or 6. If my memory is correct he and Qawi (Dwight Braxton at one point) did know each other from the prison boxing program and there was some animosity between them.
I think Scott was past it by then anyway, the cracks really becoming apparent when he was dropped twice in losing to Jerry martin. Scott had always been kind of an irresistable force and seeing him get knocked down was more than a little suprising.
