    you said hiring a trainer?
what the hell you really really dont need to get your own one. go and find a local boxing club, there are loads of threads here about finding one in your area.
dont learn stuff from your family and friends, generally they give you some good stuff but impliment all their faults and problems into you

SHORT of hiring a trainer. I'm a poor college student with rent, tuition and bills to pay. I cant even afford a gym membership at the moment...im just waiting for the college's gym to open
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?

you dont have to pay for a gym membership! youll only have to pay the amount needed for the session, which is bloody cheap!

but try to go to a gym for at least 1 or 2 times even if you really cant.
cuz it would not do any good to
shadow boxing, heavy bag, sparring with friends, focus mitts, practice drills.
or any boxing if your basic form aint right.
so stay to the first list of excersizes.....
learn the basic of boxing and then work from there.

Start a roadwork program. I've always thought that the long early morning runs are at least as much to instill discipline as anything else. Really three miles is plenty, especially if you walk a lot. Ray Arcel used a program to sharpen the wind which was very similar to this; walk a very brisk half mile, jog a brisk mile, then sprint a half mile, then walk, etc... Work on your technique- especially punching-wise. Box in front of a mirror and make sure your hands are up, that you aren't tipping off your punches, etc.. All the good fighters are counter punchers, even the aggressive types that force the action. The whole idea of it all is this; through your actions to make him throw a particular punch at a particular time so you can counter .
