... outside of Oscar DLH, who was well out of his prime? We're not talking about someone that just went to the Olympics as an alternate, or someone who won one fight and that was it. We mean someone with an Olympic and Amateur pedigree better than his- over 100 Am' fights, with mulitiple gold and/or silver medals- from the Pan-Am's, Olympics, World Championships and Chemistry Cup's. ??

You see? Hearns and Hagler had their Leonard.... Oscar DLH had his Pernell Whitaker... Chavez had his Pernell Whitaker... Tito Trinidad had his Oscar DLH... Evander had his Lennox Lewis...

But who has Floyd had outside of an ageing Oscar DLH?

Did Sugar Ray Robinson ever fight a guy with an olympic pedigree?

Its amazing how quickly people give credit to JMM and say how great he is. Look what floyd did to him, and then think that was off a 2 year layoff.

The real question is, who could have he fought that had an Olympic pedigree? come on guy, who gives a shit, Floyd would win just about any fight that people claim he "avoided." You don't get to where Floyd is by being a puss, at this point its just getting funny seeing people try to discredit Floyd, it gets harder and harder the closer he gets to the end of his career

I'm not saying it to knock Floyd, I'm just saying... guys with Olympic pedigree in their prime tend to be tougher fights.

Right, because if boxing has taught us nothing, it's that amateur success = pro success. Superstars like Francisco Bojado, Ricardo Williams Jr, Audley Harrison, Yan Barthelmy, Howard Davis, and Paul Gonzales (1984 Olympic gold medalist and the Most Outstanding Boxer of the games, an award he won over his lesser known teammates like Evander Holyfield and Pernell Whitaker) have proven that.

So DLH was "well" out of his prime? That's good stuff there DLH was 34. Since when is that "well" out of your prime? People have to stop that myth that Floyd beat an old Oscar. He was old because he lost. This is the age of the fighters Pac fought and got due got credit when he beat them: DLH was 35, Mosley was 39, and JMM was 38. Floyd is now 36. So Floyd is more than 2 years past "well" out of his prime. Will you give him the "old" excuse if he loses? By the way, I'm not a fanboy or hater of either Floyd or Pac. I give them both credit. And like the others said who could he have fought with the amateur pedigree you just stated...multiple gold and silver medals in Pan Am, Olympics, World Championships...You almost limited the pool to Cuban fighters that couldn't turn pro to make money. Heck, by your standards Rau'shee Warren doesn't qualify and he made it to 3 Olympics but never got past the first round. So Joel Casamayor is the only other fighter I can think of that was within reason. Can you think of anybody else?

Maybe Audley has come back out of retirement to get that shot at Floyd...

*Marquez is truely a smaller fighter.. Marquez beating anyone over 135pound is a testament on how great Marquez is... May's body is made for 147 pounds... May was bigger, weighed more the day of the fight and it was Marquez 1st fight at welterweight... IMO, nothing to be proud of as far as May's concerned. very uneventful

Al Haymon and Showtime have been trying to prevent Michael Phelps from turning pro for years now. They know Floyd could never deal with that combination of swimming and Olympic pedigree.

Don't forget that Phelps mayweather almost happened but Phelps was too much of a punk to submit to random subway diet testing. Ok that was a ridiculously lame joke if you can even call it that.

Anyways, who was the last Olympic medalist to really, really pan out? Of course there is Ward but who else? Especially around Mayweather weight. Amateurs are different now with headgear and that fucked up scoring system. Hopefully this changes with the removal of headgear and a change to the scoring system. It's not pro boxing on a small scale anymore, guys tailor their style specifically to be better as an amateur. It's different so I don't think the comparisons are valid.

Michael Sprott actually knocked out Olympic Gold Medal winner Audley Harrison in just 3 rounds. If Mayweather is inducted into the Hall of Fame and Sprott isn't, then we will riot.

I have a question if I may, why do you consider the Oscar that fought Floyd that night, past his physical prime?
