Default David Benavidez v Ronald Ellis March 13th Showtime

Solid fight weekend coming up. We'll get to see Canelos actual mandatory in action v Ronald Ellis 18-1-2 in Showtimes main event. Personally I think Benavidez is one guy with one of the brightest futures in the sport but a glaring 800 lb gorilla in the room cannot be ignored. Make the damn weight! Bottom line is that everything about Benavidez is massive. The wing span, his body shots, rolling in heated combos and yes his cocky confidence. He just did an interview about being the only physical threat to Alvarez but he really needs to get his head on straight 24-7. Make weight, keep the straps you win ffs...Canelo likes when you bring shiny things through the door..keep your nose 'clean'. Most important focus on the business at hand. Ellis is a capable boxer who can be a bit stiff but physical. He like Benavidez has also blown the scales up. Ellis missed weight by 5 lbs and came in an unofficial 180 for his fight with Korobov last December. I really do hope these two don't have some silent type of wink and nod to mutually come in heavy. Should be physical and see Benavidez getting the wear down late TKO.

Well they made weight but you don't get a gold trophy for doing what you're supposed to do as a pro. Wish they'd show it first because undercard is a bit thin. Can't see Ellis standing up to him for too long but he's talking it up.

I'll just be over here in the non-DAZN crowd watching the Benavidez fight card.

In any case, the first fight in the card was over pretty quickly. Terrell Gausha made short work of Jamontay Clark, with a counter one-two combination ending with a powerful right hand which sent the tall southpaw Clark to the canvas. Clark got up... but was obviously wobbly and soon after the ref stopped the beating.

Let's hope for longer fights from the other two contests.

    Benavidez up next.

One gets the feeling if he puts Ellis away in impressive fashion, it'll be like the walls closing in a little on Canelo. Canelo won't go to 160 (unless it's for Spence)... that much he's made clear. He's not gonna go up to 175, because this time it wouldn't be Bambi Kovalev... but monster puncher Beterbiev. If it wasn't for Benavidez, Canelo could go on living off the Saunders' and the Plant's of the division. Unfortunately, Benavidez isn't going anywhere, and pressure will soon mount (I hope) for Canelo to face an equally big, dangerous opponent perhaps for the first time ever.

I'm not gonna hold my breath for Canelo-Benavidez. Something will come up where the WBC somehow skirts Benavidez and protects Ginger.

He can't wait for Benavidez to get old, 'cause David's only 24. Oops...

No place to run. The WBC will think of something, though.

Good fight so far. Ellis is proving himself quite game. Benavidez started slow but is heating up. Digging those huge left hooks to the body which are sure to take their toll later on.

Benavidez really steps up the combos inside that round, Ellis sponging these so far and trying with the fast short 'get away from me' shots in between. Benavidez with the jack hammer jabs early 7th. Ellis packed his lunch but that face is lumping up.

IF.... Ellis comes out for the 9th..... he won't see the end of the round.

Benavidez is an awesome offensive force. Brutal stuff but he's just hammering a willing nail here let's be honest.

My hat's off to Ellis. Truly a tough guy.

You don't go out there talking "I'd stop Canelo" and then stand stock still up front like this. He's in his own head forcing the heavy lumber all night. Ellis has a beard

Ellis too tough for his own good. Good stoppage by the ref. Ellis was nothing but a punching bag by that point.

"Wear down late TKO" was exactly right. Ellis is one tough hombre... but at some point he had to be saved from his own braveness and his own chin. Benavidez was like a machine in there. Amazing he's only 24 years old.

Haven't seen it yet, but like his talk. Calls himself 2nd best & wants to prove himself to get Canelo

and now we read: Charlo (31-0, 22 KOs) says former WBC 168lb champion Benavidez (24-0, 21 KOs) gets hit too much, and he won’t be able to handle his power.

    Calls him out!

This is a done deal...2021 maybe a stellar year!
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
