    Default Ali vs Foreman 2

    Mornings lads,

This topic must have been done before but I couldnt find it on the boards..

IMO george beats him, all he had to do was set himself a pace that he could keep to, not gas out , be in good shape (george wanted to go home before the fight because he was sick) and he would get Ali on points. Cant see him stopping him ..

Its common knowledge Ali refused a rematch, opinions please

Ali should have lost the first fight. Thinking of the "rope-a-dope" on the spot was pure Genius. On par with Einstein's sudden insight that time and space aren't constant.

I think Foreman should have beat Ali a second time.

Ali had a chance before the Frazier III fight. You could still see Ali had plenty in the tank for one last All-time CLASSIC FIGHT for Manilla. So he wasn't completely "shot" or old. He had one last miracle in the bank, water in the well, and could dig deep one more time.

You also have to consider the fact that FOREMAN HIMSELF wasn't the same after his first defeat. It wasn't uncommon for him to come in overweight and much slower than he was Pre-Rumble in the Junge. Once Jimmy Young beat him, that was the final factor to the next chapter of his life to become a preacher and hang up the gloves for many years.

Also you have to note that during Foreman's early career, you couldn't knock him out, BUT what you could do was get him tired and fade him into the later rounds, just as Young did and Ali was very capable of doing Pre-Thrilla in Manilla.

"Ali should have lost the first fight"

yeah mate Ive been saying the same thing for years.

Ali could just take more punishment and pain than anyone else in history probably..but yeah, if george had used his brain there is no reason he shouldnt have won that fight. Ali was very clever that night for sure

You said all Foreman would need to do is set a pace.

If he tryed that Ali would beat him easy.

All George did back then was throw big hooks and uppercuts.Hard but you could see them coming a mile off.

With Ali's fast straight punches,at a slow pace he would find it even easer to hit GF.

There would be no chance of a Foreman KO coz Ali's chin was awsome. So what you are saying really is he would be able to outbox Ali over 15 slower rounds.

Dont think so mate, easy win for Ali.

    Would be very interesting;

alot thought ali was gunna get sparked out, but his rope-a-dope won it for him, would that be enough to wina rematch? highly doubt it, see ali v lyle...

i think foreman might stop ali late on if it went to a rematch.

If you took Foreman's brain, savy, and jab from his comeback era and combine it with the body and youth of his prime, he might just beat Ali. But then again, he might not. Ali was that good.

I never thought of it, but Foreman lost to Ali in 74, and then goes on boxing and winning for another 3 years, and does not get another crack at Ali. Did Ali duck foreman? ANy one ever hear anything about this?
