Apparently he only has two losses. To Ishida and to Canelo.

That Canelo loss really fucked him up though. That and losing Anne Wolf as his trainer. Talent wasted, or just another guy who was good but just not the guy? I'm thinking he was the latter, always thought he was.

He is fighting on the 26th btw... in case anyone was interested!

He retired for 4 years after that knockout by Canelo. Did not realise that either.

The multiple arrests and jail time didn't help either. With his chin first live by the sword die by the sword style he was always going to burn fast.

Understandable that you'd think Kirkland had more than two losses. Few fights after Ishida, Kirkland was probably one of the most "damaged goods" one-loss fighters in history.

Well he certainly would have if he kept fighting. The Ishida loss was so weird. Does anyone remember those videos of Kirkland losing where they edited out his opponents somehow? I believe they made ones for both of his losses, and you could see the contrast between him soaking up bombs against Canelo to just falling down repeatedly against Ishida, cartoon like. Looked as if he was stepping on rakes or something, pretty gold.

Yup, Canelo beat about 3 fights worth out of him. Browsed his last bout; he is still flat footed as ever. Concrete shoes. Squares up, chin out & about lookin' for a close encounter with a glove or two.

Because he’s not good. You’d expect him to have more losses. But he was matched well to get the most out of a very very limited guy.

3 now. Woah I guess that went to go the way it needed to go for Kirklands sake in the long run. Juan Macias Montiel scores 3 knockdowns in the 1st round basically walking right through Kirkland brutally. Zero punch resistance hurt by everything.

One thing that I have come to realize is that punch resistance has a lot to do with mentality. Sure, some people are born with a better punch resistance than others, but if your mind isn’t right, you won’t be able to take punches well. Kirkland seems to have real mental issues.

Huge factor for sure but I think much more in the bigger picture. Being wound way to tight, knowing he's been caved in before and lifestyle etc. But he's never shown 'give' when repeatedly caught flush, as weird as that sounds..that shell up have second thoughts turn away stuff type give. To me Kirkland has always been that example of a guy who gets literally short circuited on head, chin and temple fast punches. Even in fights he's won when hurt it was like everything blinked on and off and this crazy instinct kicks in. Legs lock and stepping off of curbs that aren't there eyes open but no one is home for a few seconds. Hopefully this is it for him.

They could have really stopped that one earlier. Complete mismatch for David Morrell jr but looking pretty fluid.

He is the Seth Mitchell of the welterweight division. Be gone with him then... he may never have been the dude we were looking for. What we wanted from him we got in Daniel Jacobs.

I'd imagine Ann Wolfe turn this fight off right at the 1st KD. @Spicoli. I agree with @powerpuncher on the mentality issue. How did he walk through Joel Julio who was still in contentions for a top spot. Known for KOs & couldn't really wobble James?

The James that got stopped this fight slumbers out of his corner. The James under Ann (Joel Julio) breaks out the corner.

The James in this fight allows distance. The James under Ann swarmed fighters & I think to his advantage wouldnt allow guys who needed to extend for maximums leverage

What I saw in that 1st round was a guy who looked like he has never stepped in the ring before. Just awful.
