I was having a discussion last week about great fighters turned gatekeeper- Thought Glen & looked his name up & saw this fight scheduled.
I bet if we started a thread on fighters we thought retired- but are still trying- it would be several pages long. Avni beat him. Just sad isn't it.
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
Avni looks a very exciting prospect in fairness, a great addiction to the ranks at 175.
There was an obscure stream available for the fight, so likely a video will come out sooner or later for those who missed it. I hadn't seen him before the Johnson fight but during that fight he had a high output, brought pressure and had Johnson on the ropes for almost the entire fight.
He's not ready for a top test but I suspect he'll run through the likes of Skoglund tomorrow if you allowed him.
That's too bad, it's all downhill now and pretty quick.
Sad to hear.
He worked so hard to get to the top for a brief year or so.
Beat Dawson the first time.
I remember him retiring at the encouragement of Teddy Atlas on fnf.
Anyone in life who can go 8 rounds of movement would beat Johnson.
Purely due to age!
He can't move fast, he has 0 punch output and is perfect for anyone who needs a decent scalp because he is a no risk opponent.
You say tomato,
‘n I say …… it correctly.
Not surprising now, but Johnson was a guy I liked to root for. He would have been a big problem in any era, he was good and hard as nails.
Johnson had that indian summer where he knocked out Jones and beat Tarver to the best lightheavyweight at that time. That was a massive achievement.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
He had an amazing 2004 when he upset both Jones and Tarver. Always was a big fan of Johnson, such a hard worker and humble guy who famously said "I'm not the best, I'm just a guy who is willing to fight the best."
But 46 is far too old for a man to be fighting, especially for a grinding fighter like Glen.
David Lemieux = Future MW Champ and P4P King
This Avni guy has some talent for sure. Quick hands too.

Every Road warrior eventually runs out of road. I hoped he would get out sooner. His last great thrashing to me was when he came into the final 6 and just beat the snot out of Allan Green. After that the losses became lopsided, far removed from a few of the shady L's he was handed by three blind men ringside. Hope he calls it a day and stays healthy.
9 times out of 10 the boxer will fade away with loads of defeats but then you get Cotto who will be making a career high in his next fight. They all think they can get there and retire on top but seldom do.
