Ok I watched “the promise” which is about the Armenian genocide. It was interesting in the fact you really don’t see much Hollywood productions about Armenia’s genocide but they didn’t go into much detail about what brought it up other than a few Turks saying Armenians were a tumor that needed to be removed. Also, it had a live story going on. Why a love story/genocide movie mixed. If they left out the love story they could have spent more time on the politics of the genocide. I had to watch it a half hour at a time as we our electricity is still fucked up from the tornado. All in all it did show the plight of the Armenians and some of the horror they went through. It had Christian Bale in it I expected it to be a bit better. I can’t say rush out to get or stream it but it had some interesting parts

Anne of the Thousand Days (1969)

    10/10

This one is nicely written and directed. I loved the historical accuracy. There's exemplary acting by Richard Burton, Geneviève Bujold, and Anthony Quayle. A more recent movie covering the same historical events, The Other Boleyn Girl, is nowhere nearly as good.

    12 Strong (2018) 8/10

Very good movie. Based on real events in northern Afghanistan in the fall of 2001.

    Kill Switch (2017) 7/10
    Revolt (2017) 7/10

A couple of underrated sci-fi movies. People are used to high budget special effects, these two were made on relatively small budgets but the stories were more original and less predictable than in some of the high-budget movies.

    The Hunger Games (2012) 5/10

Had an all-star cast, but the story and direction was mediocre.

    Trollhunter (2010) 5/10

It can be rather frustrating to watch these shaky-camera found-footage films. The story had potential, but deteriorated by the second half.

    The Northlander (2016) 2/10

This one has some of the very worst acting I have ever seen in a movie, and the story makes no sense at all.

Introduced the wife to "The Petrified Forrest" classic gangster flick....but also with Leslie Howard and Betty Davis it had a little romance in it.

Cargo, surprisingly decent. Protip: Babies in the apocalypse do not mix.

That's a good movie - I love Bette Davis. It includes one of Humphrey Bogart's early roles as a criminal. I find he was more convincing as a gangster than as a good guy.

Crime Wave great film noir and filmed a bit cinema vertae years before it was popular. Studio originally wanted Bogart in it, director disagreed so his budget got slashed and he was given two weeks to make the film, he did an excellent job, very gritty, ahead of its time

@Freedom I got 12 strong solely on your recommendations. I read some bad reviews online but I’ll give it a shot. I’m not big into war movies, I had enough military this lifetime but I’ll run it up the flag pole see if I give it a salute

Bogey was versatile he was a darker version of Cagney, he was George Raft but with good snappy delivery on his lines when all Raft seemed to do was flip a coin. I love the old gangster movies! 'The Public Enemy', 'Little Cesar', 'The Roaring Twenties', 'Scarface'....oh so many great great movies!

Edward G Robinson was great. Famous for the gangster roles but he was great in a few drama and noir films I saw. By the way I just picked up Winchester about Mrs Winchester building the never ending house, I’ll comment after screening

Yup, it sounded good in description but watching it was another matter.
