Who is "worthy", or who can actually sell them? Chavez Jr has got more PPV buys from fighting blown up journeymen than Rigondeaux could ever hope to do fighting Santa Cruz, just to show how different those questions are. Of course it's never going to be all about merit, but I don't understand who actually pays for some of these cards.
It is pretty obvious how desperate the American networks are for new A sides, but you can't expect anyone to sell on their own before they have any great wins/performances! Rios-Chavez was a PPV wasn't it?? Even Floyd and Mannys fights are showing how dire this is getting imo. Is Pacquiao-Algeri worth paying for? It's probably going to be live at breakfast again for most people in the Western world, and won't even have an under card. There is no really great fight to co-main Floyd-Maidana 2 either, it's pretty bleak.
No one is worthy of PPV. There is only 1 fight worthy and that was Manny v Floyd. The rest are ridiculously over priced rubbish being peddled as great boxing match ups.

GGG v Cotto would be a good fight.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
The buying masses have been trained now. As long as you get ko's you will sell ppv. Part of the fast food mentality. I'm hoping the end of Floyd and Manny IS THE BEGINNING OF THE END of that scam perpetrated on the public and that it forces the powers at be to reach out to standard tv or the same kind of charge that I pay for a movie on demand, about 5 bucks.
Ftr nobody deserves to make 20 or 30 million a fight.
WAR PPV following the tracks of the dodo bird.
I'm conflicted about PPV to be honest. Sometimes PPVs are nothing more than a popularity contest, and I always wish I had the money they spend hyping PPVs.
I'm proud to be part of the buying masses, we make things happen!
Minus
—I don't like to pay extra to see a fight.
—There's no guarantee the fight will be worth the extra money.
Plus
+It's much cheaper than attending.
+I can set in my front room with my friends to watch it.
+I get all the extra coverage a PPV usually offers.
+PPVs usually have larger and better quality broadcast teams so you get more opinions.
+PPVs usually turn out to be worth the money.
Do not mess with my PPV, you'll be stirring up a hornets nest! I like the convenience.
If you don't like it, don't buy it!!!

PPV is the Gold Standard. There is nothing wrong with maxing out when one can.

Please my friend there is an oxymoron in that statement. The British and Mexican domestic scenes are better and more competitive then 99% of the mismatches sold as ppv's. They are a brain drains and rarely if ever meet expectations. Guys like Mayweather beating up some no hoper and raking in 40 million for a workout. Its beyond rape and pillage. These headliners, about 6 of them have indirectly frozen out the core of the sport and the ppv dynamic has directly caused champions refusing to fight real challenges or other champions under the cloak of "boxing is a business" The biggest cop out of the 21st century.
I'm not talking about competition. I have seen better four-rounder's from guys with under 5 fights than I see with 12 rounds of championship boxing.
But I meant that PPV is the Gold Standard in terms of how we count the money- it is the standard for monetary and financial viability.

Like p4pking says it's who can sell them. And on top of that it's the collapse in the talent pool even from when Oscar was in his prime compared to now.
Canelo Alvarez got a higher PPV figure for his first PPV against Angulo than Fishnets got for his first PPV. But who does Alvarez have to fight that can sell a lot? Cotto and maybe Chavez Junior or Floyd again. That's it. Fishnets had Chavez Senior, Whitaker, Camacho, Quartey, Trinidad, Vargas, Mosley, Gatti, Hopkins and so on.
They can put Alvarez in PPV fights and they'll sell a few hundred thousand but if there was a decent quantity of world class fighters around he'd be doing a string of million plus sales.

Ppv is hollow sham with zero standards. Nothing more punchable than being asked to shill out 60-70 bucks for a shallow undercard topped off by some primadona one weekend and then having the affiliated network include the same fight as a replay on its next card..and not air some possibly much more entertaining co feature as a result. Think about it, last weekend the ppv boys charged 29.95 for some silly circus crap featuring Brian Vera vs Gabriel Rosado in what resembled a spoof of old American Gladiator repeats. It wasn't too long ago you could drop nearly that and get, on occasion, a SET Don king ppv that was stacked. It's just outlived its usefulness in today's wide open media, at least from a fans perspective not the fighters accountant.
