Don't give up your height to shorter fighters by hunching over. This doesn't mean to stand straight up tall like a tree. But instead, if you are going to lower your elevation, bend at the knees. But never hunch your back and give up height trying to reach a smaller opponent.

Don't jab down at shorter opponents. Not only does this expose your head, it shortens your arms and lets them get closer to you. Widen your stance a bit and jab the chest; the chest can't slip punches so this keeps them at the end of your jab.

Never give up your height, it is a advantage.

Any strategy you develop, you want to stand tall to your true height, you would never want to bend over and make yourself an easier target, ask your coach to explain what he means, because he certainly doesn't want you to become a easier target.

If you're taller than your opponent, as a form of defense you can:

    1) Pivot to the side
    2) Slip the punch
    3) Lean back slightly
    4) Take a small step back

You shouldn't bob and weave or duck punches because it brings your head down to where your opponent can easily reach it.
