That old piece of shit Einhorn has nothing to do with it.

Global warming has nothing to do with it.

The current mass extinction event is a sad reality.

The Great Dying 250 Million Years Ago

I think that one was from a supernova within 30 light years or a hypernova within 300 light years.

And it's disingenuous to say "Global Warming has nothing to do with it"....it's all the politicians and celebrities will talk about today in the US....and all it is, is just a Socialist agenda.

Mass Extinctions happen, there have been more than a few before humans were a glint in our creator's eye

I'm neither a politician nor a celebrity, I'm just an ordinary working man who understands the folly and tragedy of a human-created mass extinction event.

Every 100 million years or so.

Don't you realize how long that is? Humans have only been here for a relatively short period of time.

That doesn't mean we should have a man made extinction. The solar system is more stable now, fewer comets than there were. Over the past 65 million years, many have crashed into the gas giants (Jupiter and Saturn) due to their much higher gravity than earth.

And there won't be another supernova close enough to damage the earth for at least 10 (probably 100-200) million years. Mu Cephei, NML Cygni and VY Canis Majoris will be a bright as a full moon when they explode, but are too distant to destroy most of the life on earth.

Some life forms like Sharks, which evolved some 420 million years ago survived FOUR of the FIVE major extinctions (late Devonian, end Permian, Triassic/Jurassic, Cretaceous-Paleogene).

But Sharks will not survive the 21st century if current declines in ALL shark species continues.

    Holocene Extinction

The Holocene extinction, otherwise referred to as the Sixth extinction, is a name for the ongoing extinction event of species during the present Holocene epoch (since around 10,000 BCE) mainly due to human activity. The large number of extinctions span numerous families of plants and animals including mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and arthropods. Although 875 extinctions occurring between 1500 and 2009 have been documented by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources,[1] with widespread degradation of highly biodiverse habitats such as coral reefs and rainforest, as well as other areas, the vast majority are thought to be undocumented. According to the species-area theory and based on upper-bound estimating, the present rate of extinction may be up to 140,000 species per year,[2] making it the greatest loss of biodiversity since the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.

The earth is a very special planet - we don't realize how lucky we are

There are countless trillions of planets in the universe. Simple life is no doubt abundant on many planets, as it has been on earth for 3.5 billion years. However, complex life, which on earth took another 3 billion years to evolve from simple life, is likely uncommon. Because there are so many conditions necessary for it to exist, intelligent life, which took 3.5 billion years to evolve on earth, is probably very rare.

Many stars are unstable flare stars. Others are more massive than the sun and don't "live" long enough: some expand into red giants and the biggest explode into supernovae in a few million years. Many stars are part of multiple star systems and any planets would have unstable orbits and extreme fluctuations in their surface temperatures.

After over 50 years, SETI still hasn't heard any aliens communicating with each other out there. I'm sure intelligent life DOES exist on other planets throughout the universe, but it's not as common as some people believe.

I'm not denying there have been many UFO sightings, but those objects are all from earth: weather balloons, military planes, sun's glare on commercial aircraft, etc. UFOs from other worlds have not been visiting earth.

Mind you, virtually all the scientists agree there's probably lots of simple life on the trillions of planets out there. It only takes about 1,000,000,000 years, maybe less, for simple life to form on a fairly stable planet.

Sometimes we hear misleading news reports about "earth-like" planets being discovered. Yet there is no real evidence that those planets are anything like earth. I remember one report about a "newly-formed earth-like" planet being discovered around Fomalhaut, a massive class "A" star. Since the star's age is already estimated to be 500,000,000 years, Fomalhaut will expand into a red giant long before life could evolve on that planet.

Most of us don't know how lucky we are to have even come into existence. Our earth is very SPECIAL place in the universe.

    Not everyone.

    Creatures evolve into other creatures.

Humans gradually evolved from the early complex life that first began to evolve from clumps of organic cells (sponges) during the early Cambrian 541 million years ago.

Who the fuck has decided that today is 'Earth Day'? What gives them the slightest semblance of a right to do this?

I got a Facebook post ... From Facebook ..... asking me to think about it and to do something different today.

Who do they think they are? I'm sick of people moralising and telling others what to do.

Just for that, I have just lit a gigantic carbon producing bonfire, and I have put ALL my recycling in the landfill bin.

    Fuck the lot of them
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?

When the atmosphere has a greater amount of carbon, and less oxygen, all the larger land animals die off. Large land creatures like homo sapiens need lots of oxygen to stay alive, that's why we will suffocate and die if we don't breathe for a few minutes.

    It has happened before

And if there is too much oxygen in the atmosphere that ain't good either. Premature babies used to go blind because they were given too much oxygen.

Have you been reading Zero Hedge? Humanity is in trouble because we have abandoned family values and self responsibility, allowed women to use children as a commodity, invaded countries, allowed the migrants in, let central banks run the show, elite criminals to run amok, and chaos is duly descending as IQ's plummet and rage accelerates and the police state closes in.
