    Default Mr. Guzman

Is there a better active defensive fighter than Joan? I'm watching his last fight against Ameth Diaz, some of the shit Guzman is pulling off is ridiculous. When he does his little defense only moves it's like he goes into fast forward.

I also noticed Mayweather wasn't in his corner, anyone know anything about that? Did he get dumped after not making weight?

Since Floyds retirement I think Guzmans defense is the best in the game! I hope with a win over Romanov Guzman can make a statement against the other big names at 135. He was on the cusp coming into the Campbell fight but not making weight has set him back some!

I consider Guzman to be Boxings most skilled fighter. As well as it's most overrated. 32 years old and the biggest name on his resume is Humberto Soto.

I remember watching Guzman years ago and couldn't wait to see more. But things have just never taken off. He maybe gives me the impression that he ain't as dedicated to boxing as his skill set would suggest.

Definately one of the most talented boxers around. Unfortunately, unless he makes a leap, i see him as a "what could have been" fighter. Something has gone wrong at the last hurdle a couple of times now for him. I'm sure he was supposed to have fought Alex Arthur for a title a while back and somethin to do with a visa stopped him fighting. No doubt in my mind he would have demolished Arthur too.

I'd love to know how this guy lives. With a bit more dedication he could have been a big star in boxing. The Campbell debacle was beyond belief. Just when he gets the chance to force the big boys to take notice, he sets himself back further than ever

Given the chance, I think he would have beaten Pac, Marquez and the rest.

Unfortunately, with his age starting to kick on, it looks like he'll join the wasted talent club.

Guzman is a fighter who is going to break into superstardum.

The problem is, about 5 years ago he was going to break into superstardum too.

He is like the hare in the tortoise race. He seems to get such a lead, but when he is about to reach the finish line he lets up just enough for a turtle to catch him.

Thanks for sharing, that was one impressive vid compilation of a boxer whose status nowadays is relegated to a footnote. I wonder if the sad predicament has more to do with consequences beyond his control, or a lack of dedication due to unprofessionalism. Either way, with skills as such on display, here's hoping that he gets a second chance. Anyone deserves one, there is no reason he shouldn't.

I wonder what happened? He was right there with the big names and then poof! gone in a blink of an eye.

At his age, he does not have many more chances to get back to the pink of things, so he better not waste at any of the chances coming his way.

I can imagine a lot of people wanting to see more of him with suspended disappointment. It is suspended, as fans of boxers with these skills are
understandably eternally forgiving and are to a fault, hopeful optimists. , Nothing wrong with that, for these are but, genuine attributes of a fan!

I still say its Bernard Hopkins, he gets hit about the same against way higher levels of competition.

But Hopkins constantly holds.. and is ugly to watch

You don't have to know about boxing to appreciate the magnitude of skill Guzman displays.. not just defensively either.

It's certainly been mentioned for the IBF. Shame really because Romanov is another fighter that should have done better things by now. If it happens Guzman will have a field day.

Guzman spent years blaming promoters for his career not going anywhere then doesn't make the weight for the biggest fight of his career and a chance to make some big fights and a lot of money before he starts to go downhill. Hopefully he gets a belt and then finally faces meaningful opposition.

That doesn't make Hopkins not a better fighter, which he clearly is. Ugly style or not he is far better than Guzman will ever be, even if he isn't as impressive, thats the whole appeal to Hopkins. I would also argue that Calderon is at least as good of a defensive fighter.
