Great value undercard
Quigg v Monroe
Rabchenko v Vitu for EBU light middleweight
Gary Buckland v Stephen Foster Jr British super featherweight title
Martin Murray, Adam Etches, James Dickens, Scott Jenkins and Ryan Burnett (opponents to be announced)
Meh, I think Katsidis would've been a way better opponent no matter how shot. This guy didn't do much of anything against Maglignaggi, and that was in defending his title at home. He looked very rigid and predictable from what I remember. Certainly still a decent first opponent after the layoff, I just wouldn't expect a good fight of it.
If Hatton has trouble here he'll need to really think things over, it should be a good chance to shake some rust off though. I'd imagine this guy will be easy to hit to the body, probably a fairly easy stoppage and chance to impress for Hatton.
A good night out for you lads anyway.
Shit fight. Delaying the inevitable.
So Ricky is coming back at 147 He has NEVER looked good or comfortable at that weight. Collazo should have beaten him (which IMO gives Malinaggi the upper hand). Hopefully Ricky has the stamina to beat this guy Senchenko as that was the problem right before his retirement.
Hatton vs Katsidis seems more fun, but Katsidis is a smaller guy as well so at least Senchenko gets Ricky ready for 147 properly.
I don't know why but part of me always wondered about Ricky Hatton vs Zab Judah (as well as Hatton vs Cotto)
While Hatton-Senchenko may not be as fan-appealing as Hatton-Katsidis, I respect this choice of opponent (for a comeback) fight a lot more. First of all, Senchenko is a true welterweight. I'm beginning to abhor fighters that pick on smaller, "name" fighters with the hopes of adding an easy, famous scalp to their collection. Maybe the memories of De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao have something to do with that.
Secondly, although Senchenko's not all that.... he does have a pretty good record. And as I've said before, it makes no sense to throw Hatton into a ring with a Lucas Matthysse or a Tim Bradley. He does have the long layoff.... and he did get KTFO'ed in ugly fashion his last time out.
I personally don't think Hatton's quest for a comeback will go beyond a couple of carefully picked fights, but I give him credit for trying. What I will not see with kind eyes is going for some meaningless trinket.... and then have the fans trumpeting that he's somehow again world champion material. Those days are long gone.
Hatton vs Jose Luis Castillo was pretty fucking weak, it's a shame Diego Corrales (R.I.P) and Erik Morales didn't get the chances to fight Ricky because I think those would have been epic fights. I guess a fight vs Morales could still happen....I wouldn't mind it one bit.
I wish Ricky the best but fighting against slick southpaws really isn't his bag, I only brought up Zab Judah because he thought too highly of himself and that put him in situations where he got roughed up a fair bit.
Who will be training Hatton? Has he patched things up with Graham?
I'm amazed at this. Nobody can knock him over choosing this guy. Although he lost to Paulie he was an unbeaten alphabet belt holder one fight ago. He's a proper welterweight and he can punch.
How many fighters in of Ricky's level making a comeback after being out for years have ever chosen an opponent this difficult for their first fight? You've got to give Hatton a lot of respect for this one. Definite possibility of an upset here although if and when he wins it's obviously going to be Paulie next.
Your still butt hurt that Hatton got to fight Mayweather before Cotto. You wouldn't give Hatton credit if he beat a Klitschko because you don't like his style. If and I do mean IF, he beats Senchenko and then Malanaggi, then of course he should move up the rankings and be seen as world champion material. He may not beat Pacman or Floyd but of course you would have to see him as world champion material. Bradley is not some invincible warrior he is beatable. Guerrero, Bailey they are not the most convincing welterweights to ever win a belt are they?
For the moment it is all conjecture but Hattons return is great news for WORLD boxing and who knows where it will end. All fighters matches are carefully picked fights it is called the art of matchmaking.
I GIVE HATTON PROPS FOR FACING SENCHENKO AND YOU STILL HAVE A BUG UP YOUR ASS?? WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM, OTHER THAN BEING A HATTON AND CALZAGHE NUTHUGGER?? ARE YOU INCAPABLE OF SEEING WHEN SOMEONE IS GIVING PROPS TO YOUR FIGHTERS?? ARE YOU SUCH A FUCKING IDIOT THAT YOU HAVE TO KEEP RAZZING ON PEOPLE LIKE ME, WHO DON'T WORSHIP THE FIGHTERS YOU DO?? WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM, BRO?? STUFF IT UP YOUR ASS!! I'VE HAD A FEW, AND I BECOME BELLIGERENT WHEN I'M DRUNK, UNLIKE RYANMAN, WHO LOVES EVERYBODY. SHOVE IT ASSHOLE.
