    Default Mates

Went to Tesco this morning bumped into a old mate, I am 54 he's 56 and he needs 2 new hips fuck
asked how Ian is doing yes he's a mate, 54 like myself not bad carrying on with life, he needs a new
heart fuck, but he's still working and he's getting on with it.
Arwel who I was talking too, and Ian are old mates from school biking mates, drinking buds as well
rock concerts, all the things friends do.
Shit you health is everything chaps, I was in school with both from 5 years of age.

Yes you can have all the money in the world but it means nothing if you do not have your health.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

    It certainly is

I shit myself at every internal ache and pain these days. A couple of years back (pre 40) I just worried about wrinkes and less hair.

Think I posted this last year but in the space of a week or so days last June 3 of my friends died in their 40s. 1 brain tumour (40), 1 stomach cancer (my boss of 15 years, aged 49) and 1 cancer spread (41, her third bout of cancer since she was 36 having beaten it twice)

The latter two had young children. It's a fucker and puts everything into perspective.

There's 16 of us actually going to Manchester this weekend to celebrate my former bosses, what would have been, his 50th birthday
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate

Its amazing and equally tragic the perspective and respect we gain by a close friends loss. Often not even a close friend but simply a guy or gal you worked next to for a couple of years or passed in a hallway back in the School days. I've seen 3 paddle outs back in VB in the last few months for classmates and friends I 'knew'. All to cancer and all the same age range....that right there will shake you to your bones and have you wide eyed! I'm learning and finally appreciating that age and illness are not only confined to that which is visible, the obvious aches and old bones we all go through. Stress, drama and repetitive negative energy and atmosphere can be and often is just as debilitating and costly. You have to rid yourself of that as much as possible and break a cycle. At the end of the day its so damn important to touch base with roots, the people you ran with, some you ran from and anyone who you called a 'mate' or called a bud. Only a friend who has seen you at your complete worst or absolute top can give it valued insight and honest perspective as you get long in the tooth. They, regardless of status or change, can be in the very same spot. Yep, don't take the day for granted and make the most!
