On a P4P basis, who would win? These are two of my favourite fighters of all time, however i just gotta give it to Ray Leonard, based on his ability to adjust and figure out a way to beat any opponent.
Opinions?

I would go with sweetness. Sweet Pea at his peak wins this fight . ( southpaws are dangerous just by nature, add spectacular skills to the mix and you got a dangerous formula.) Be a great match-up !
Peat W 12 unan dec
Leonard would have to much of everything. as much as I like pernell styles make fights, Leonard would be all wrong for him

Leonard coould do everything that Sweet Pea could do, plus he could pumch and knew how to trade from time to time. Leonard would be fast enough to cut off the right and he was a better fighter on the insider. I think Sugar wins by late stoppage.
i agree with all that except i think it would be 12 ud or sd for leonardOriginally Posted by SeanE
Leonard could not do everything Parnell can do... Leonard had no defense.Originally Posted by SeanE

Who you backing then Teath? OK, Pernell obviously had a better defense. However, gotta bear in mind Leonard was a better offensive fighter though.Originally Posted by Taeth
I want to know how leonard had no defense, that cracked me up. Thats got to be one of the funniest statements Ive ever heard, he never left the parish to avoid the punch thats what made him such a good counter puncher. Do you understand Boxing, please explain Id love to hear your explanation.

Just when I was starting to think I had misjudged you, Taeth...I was starting to take some of your opinions seriously...you say something retarded like that.Originally Posted by Taeth
Lets say, just for argument, Pernell was a better defender than Leonard (I'm not sure that's true, btw). To say Ray had NO DEFENSE is like saying "Foreman didn't have much power."
Was he? Pernell could be defensively brilliant while throwing 100 punches a roundOriginally Posted by cockey cockney
Its called commitment thats why a lot of punchers get punched. The non commited fighter plays safe and wont go for it and be brave and have it . Its mindset, the fighters who are commited put bums on seats thats what you pay your money to see Ill give you an example . Ali v Frazier 1 , I think it was the 8th rd when Ali trying to wind Frazier up said come on Joe try and hit me. Joe said to Ali no you try and hit me and Ali couldnt it was that rd that won Joe the fight because Ali lost confidence. As he said after we practice that all the time in the gym but people dont want to see me boxing like that so its very rare I get the chance. You get the trial horses in the game getting by on not getting hit and earning a living and making it hard for the prospects. All great fighters have great chins until they start getting hit. Great fighters dont get hit, when they do they stop being great, you saw it Saturday.

My opinion is that Peat would have won via 12 R dec. . Peat would circle his opponent and get awesome angles, plus being a southpaw alone is a huge advantage in boxing and being a great technician on top of all that. = pure nightmare for opponents . . Sweet Pea in his prime was something special . nothing against Sugar Ray,, Ray was brilliant fighter also. when you talking about two great fighters anything could have happen inside that ring.Originally Posted by Majesty
IMO, Yes because he had sooo much more power and quicker hands.Originally Posted by Majesty
