Default Andy Ruiz Jr vs Anthony Joshua rematch

Eddie Hearn rules out US venue for Andy Ruiz Jr vs Anthony Joshua rematch, Ruiz Jr rules out UK

An announcement regarding where the Andy Ruiz Jr vs Anthony Joshua rematch will take place is expected imminently.

However, it still seems as if there’s plenty of dispute over the location of the crucial clash.

Following Ruiz’s stunning upset win over Joshua at MSG in June, the Brit activated his rematch clause and has the right to decide the venue.

This hasn’t stopped the new champion from dragging his heels though, as promoter Eddie Hearn has now admitted.

Hearn told Sky: “They don’t want to come to the UK, they never have done.

“I think they used the Dillian Whyte saga as a little bit of a scapegoat in that decision as well, and we have to take that into consideration.

“Contractually we know our position, but we want to make sure we get the fight done. We want to respect Andy Ruiz, but we’ll decide where the venue is.

“A neutral venue, he would be a lot happier with. I think I can rule out America, right now. Cardiff is still the frontrunner, it’s still the favourite.

“There are some other interesting options that would be quite iconic internationally.

“I keep saying this, but in the next 48 hours Andy Ruiz’s team will be alerted to where this fight will take place.”

Hearn initially stated that November 29 back at MSG in New York or December 14 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff were the two options for Ruiz vs Joshua II.

Now, it seems a neutral venue may come into play, with AJ’s side ruling out America and Ruiz adamant he won’t be coming to the UK.

When asked if he was worried about travelling to Joshua’s home country in the midst of the Whyte situation, Ruiz replied to Joe Rogan: “Somewhat, but it’s not gonna be over there.

    “Nope, it’s not.”

Hearn is such a cunt. Since when does the challenger decide where the champion defends his crown?

It was probably in the rematch clause, to be fair But Hearn is still such a cunt.

Hearn is whistling past the graveyard with location nonsense and bickering while the career of AJ teeters on edge. Do well to focus more on Joshua not being hit with the same punch over and over.

Hearn seems like he may be alright if you didnt have to do business with him, but a cunt indeed. Also, the Whyte situation seems less like a scapegoat and more of a very legitimate cause for concern, especially when there is very real reason to doubt AJ is a clean fighter all along. I think the fight does big numbers almost anywhere, if AJ wanted to really make a statement, returning to the place he was beaten would obviously be the best way. There was zero controversy surrounding the first fight, so whats the problem.

Do you guys realise how big AJ's team of managers, advisers, lawyers and representatives are? His public reps, Rob McCracken (trainer) and Sky Sports have all been public that the rematch must take place in the UK. Adam Smith (SKY head of boxing) just last week said the rematch has to be primetime UK, as they took a big hit with the middle of the night palaver last time.

I feel dirty defending a promoter but do you honestly think Hearn is creating venue problems for himself?

The problem with all that is, he got his ass kicked. It shouldnt really matter how big his team is, as they arent in a position to be demanding home court. Likewise with sky taking a hit last time, so what? The americans dont want to watch a fight at 1 in the afternoon either, and Ruiz likely has a lot of new fans/buyers.

    This.

Although with the impasse over AJ not wanting it in the States and Ruiz not wanting it in the UK..... one has to wonder whether it will happen at all.

I would think it would be in AJ's best interests to give in before it doesn't happen at all.

Well, wins and losses have consequences yeh. Lawyers and the gaggle, networks will all still be making plenty of money when Joshua is being respectively compared to either Bruno or Lewis as a trivia question.

Fenster, you're a good guy, but this is what is wrong with boxing today and why it has become a largely minority sport 🙁

Pretty sure ruiz will have already signed something that doesn't give him much of a choice where the rematch is... But if he wants to go go fully anti contract hardball, good for him, makes it funny for everyone watching.

Still no announcement then. I think any heavyweight champ who managed to lose away from home in an upset is going to try and get the rematch in his own country. You can't fault the Joshua side for that at all. And if it's in the contract then that's that. But how are they going to enforce the contract if Ruiz doesn't play? I'd love to see the relevant clauses.

    Just explaining the reality.

Ruiz signed a contract for the rematch but is now using his new found clout (rightfully?). Hence asking for $50 million to come to England (not a literal number, bit of fun for the press, however, he was obviously demanding a big raise to whatever he originally agreed and changed his mind about travelling).

AJ, his million man management team and TV company are adamant the fight takes place in the UK (SKY have an exclusive deal with Hearn/AJ, they publicly criticised Hearn for not delivering AJ's Wembley date in April and then taking him to New York, which ruined their summer blockbuster PPV).

Everyone blames Hearn, naturally, as he's the front man (cunt). But he has a contract broken by Ruiz (team) and all sorts of new demands from AJ (team).

Sometimes fans forget the fighter is actually in charge, that's all.

Just explaining the reality. A minority sport worth billions.
