The legendary referee has passed away.
The legendary referee has passed away.
RIP he was a fine ref with one of the coolest names in boxing.
I'll never forget him giving Gatti the benefit of the doubt and letting him fight on during the 9th round vs Ward! Great ref.

Frank Cappuccino - Referee
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

He was my favorite, one of the last OLD SCHOOL refs: Mills Lane, Arthur Mercante, Rudy Battle, Carlos Padilla, Richard Steele, Tony Orlando.
Yeah good call, he was an old school guy like Mills Lane who didn't take shit from anyone.
I loved the Tyson/Spinks fight, as soon as he saw Mike using his forearms and he started yelling "KNOCK IT OFF MIKE, KNOCK IT OFF".
Boxing needs more guys like him and Mills Lane, who weren't afraid to get in there and take control, but also knew when to let the guys fight it out.
