Default Danny Garcia vs. Paulie Malignaggi Signed for August 1st

Garcia v Malignaggi set for August 1 in New York | World Boxing News

Wow. Danny really doesn't care about his reputation any more does he? Fight is at 147lbs. at the Barclays Center in New York and will be part of ESPN's showing of Premier Boxing Champions.

There is a great comedy quote in this article from the senior director of programming and acquisitions at ESPN:

"Danny Garcia has laid waste to the junior welterweight division and instead of easing his way into the welterweight division, he's fighting a former world champion in Paulie Malignaggi.

    I laughed alot at that.

Yeah, instead of easing his way in huh I really don't like this fight, don't think Paulie looked good last time out, but he's certainly going to have fans behind him for this one. If Garcia loses he should forget retiring and just kill himself.

Paulie is a legit 47 gate keeper who on paper cant punch although he'd most likely flat line most of us.

Danny should have least had the courtesy to fight Lamont again at 144.

The press conferences and yapping by Paulie and Sr will be worth the price of admission. I think there is a good chance that Paulie cripples their camp mentally and really gets them off their game.

I think there is a fair chance at an upset.

Nope, Paulie is done. If he was half himself he'd be a tough matchup for Garcia but he's done.

    Wow was my reaction too.

Garcia seems to have been getting worse over his last few fights. He was at 143 or 44 for his last fight and looked very average so I'm not sure moving up to 147 is going to help him much.

If he's anything like the fighter who fought Matthysse then it's an epic mismatch. I have a feeling Paulie gives him a hell of a fight though.

An unusual crossroads fight. Garcia has to win, after the Herrera and Peterson fights and the Salka mis-match a lose to Paulie would be devastating.

Malignaggi has to win to stay relevant. Another lost like the one to Porter all but finishes him.

Paulie is done but I hope he can pull off the upset.

Can't wait to see the antics between Paulie and Angel Garcia lol.

thing is he still had options at 140, he could rematch Matthysse, Herrera, or Peterson, or he could fight Provodnikov, Crawford, Vargas, Barthelamy, or Figueroa Jr (who just had a big W against Burns)

so 140 is pretty stacked, although welter is getting along and filling up with good names, all things considered fighting Malignaggi as your debut at the weight class isn't the worst fight you could take (Porter smashed him but Malignaggi put Broner through hell), but in no way is it the toughest fight in the division

I think the problem is he can't make 140 but has been very tentative in his approach to 147.

In September 2013, Garcia had the biggest win in his career when he defeated Matthysse. Rather than skyrocket into the top realm of draws in boxing, he has remained stagnant. Part of the reason for that probably is that he can't make 140 anymore and he isn't big enough for 147 (and won't ever be). Therefore, his team is matching him safely. Herrera, Peterson, Salka, and now Paulie -- not one is a puncher of any notoriety. If that's the case, why not Algieri? They'll face him next.

Garcia wont fight his best friend broner which has left him in a bit of an awkard spot.

If he beats paulie he should call out khan for another big money rematch.

It shoukd really be khan calling out garcia but khan has wet dreams about mayweather.

If Garcia has another off performance I can see Paulie wining this. I expect the build up to be more entertaining than the actual fight.

First fight at the welterweight is a good choice. Garcia just can not make 140lb again.
