Disgraceful..
Well done Ricky!2 weight world champion.u deserve it knew Marquez would shit himself from fighting u!lol! Nah seriously guy deserves it after the kat fight.just needs to smash 1 last euro level fighter Kevin Mitchell is his name a think and it will maybe finally shut finito up!
HA HA i knew Finito would be delighted
The fact that they handed a full title to an ordinary fighter on a silver platter.. WBO just lost more credibility with this mafia-like move.. This is organized crime bruh..
Ill tell you one thing though. Burns isn't going to hold that belt for long. Maybe till the end of this year at the latest.
As long as he faces Kev this year, that belt is going to get yanked right outa his waist..
Looks like Dinamita is still the super champ, the real champ of WBO..
During the last few hours it was announced by the camp of Ricky Burns that three-time world champion Juan Manuel Marquez had left the division and moved to welterweight, therefore Burns is now WBO lightweight world champion. However, over the telephone on Thursday Marquez said he has been talking to WBO President Francisco Valcarcel and been assured that the WBO lightweight “super” world championship title remains with him. Mexican and international media published the recognition that made Burns regular WBO lightweight champion and Marquez was informed immediately and began the search for the correct information. He is also hoping to be reinstated as WBA lightweight “super” champion after that title was stripped earlier this month.
Thats quite irritating. You would have thought they would have got two good boxers to have a fight for it at least. Im sure there are plenty of people out there who would want to fight for a vacant belt.
Robert Guerrero, Miguel Vazquez, Brandon Rios, Antonio DeMarco and even Kevin mitchell.
All ranked in the top ten of the lightweight devision. Im sure they could have made one of those fights happen and given the belt away then.
Finito...Fighters getting a belt handed to them has been going on for years. If they win an eliminator or in recent years fight for an interim title then they must be promoted to full champion IF the champion doesnt fight them.
Ken Norton got his WBC Heavyweight Title that way when he won an eliminator. Ali was stripped.
Lennox Lewis got the WBC Heavyweight title the first time by beating Razor Ruddock in an eliminator. Bowe was stripped/
Ricky Burns got the WBO belt because he beat Katsidis in an Interim Title fight with the winner to face Juan M Marquez. It was the WBO that said that if Marquez didnt fight the winner then whoever won the Interim fight would be declared champion.
Certainly not Ricky Burns fault.
Fighting Katsidis , Moses and Mitchell in 3 straight fights MUST get respect. Moses will be a hard fight its certainly on a forgone conclusion.
Burns beats Mitchell though...8-4 type of fight.
Yep, not his fault he ínherited'the title, what's he to say "oh no thanks I'll just leave it for now" .
A lot of other who have been in this situation though have said they wouldn't feel like the champ until they had defended the title then it would be legit. As a Glasgow man I am happy for him, hope he can make a couple of defenses, he's shut a few people up so far, so who knows.
He also seems well grounded and pretty decent which is never a bad thing for the sport to set an example to youngsters.
I hate it when anyone wins a title without fighting
