Default Boxers KO'd by the sparring partner..

We all hear rumours of 'so-and-so' knocked cold by their sparring partners.

So anyone know of any high profile boxers who actually were? Ok, 'allegedly' were?

Facts would be better but lets hear a few of them rumours...

McCall stated in an interview they decked each other 5 times each in their sparring, over the years.

Page decked Tyson in public sparring

Some one (name escapes me) busted open then Heavyweight Champ George Foreman, while Foreman was preparing for the 'Rumble in the Jungle' causing a a few weeks delay in the fight.

Audley was sparked by Williams and Francis pre 2000 Olympics (allegedly)

Lamon Brewster KO'd Lennox Lewis in sparring (pretty certain about that one)

Right, here is a little story.

I once worked with a great old trainer, in the 80's for about 3 weeks. We got on very very well together and we used to spend hours talking, he told me a story which left me gob smacked.

He was in a detroit gym working with fighters when Ray Robinson came in, he was asking for sparring. At that time Robinson was the world welterweight champion, there was this certain chap who was sweeping the gym floor at the time and they asked him to spar with Robinson. He agreed and during the spar Ray started getting heavy, and the guy who was sweeping the floor sparked Robinson out.

At this I was transfixed, then he went on to tell me that about 6 months later Ray came back into the gym and asked to spar with the same person. The guy who was sat down at the time reading at the back of the gym agreed to get back in the ring with Him. Once again, Ray tried to beat the guy up, and again the gym sweeper sparked him right out, the old trainer told me they thought the sweeper had killed Ray, he didnt move for nearly ten minutes.

I swear this story is true on my fathers grave.

There is a saying in America, that people who sweep gym floors can knock people out, I believe this story is where this saying came from.

Believe me, this old trainer was one of the straightest guys in boxing.

I will give you ten guesses on who the gym sweeper was....

Pain lasts a only a minute, but the memory will last forever....

I heard Eubank was pretty handy in the gym, seriously hurting Dennis Andries, Herol Graham and Chris Pyatt. Also Eubank used to spar with Alex Ramos, Aaron Davis and Dennis Milton when he lived in New York and apparently had no problems with them (ie beating them up I guess).

Not telling you just yet, think about the era.

As for Eubank, if you could have seen some of the good hidings he has had in the gym, he has to be one of the hardest human beings I have ever seen, he is also one hell of a man.
