    Default Boxing for Fitness

    Hi everyone.

I live in the cold state of Minnesota. Excercising outdoors in the summer is great, but I go nuts durring the cold months. Using the treadmill and bike in the basement gets old fast, so I'm looking for other ways to make things interesting.

I've always been a boxing fan, so I started looking into this as a way to work out.

Any advise on what single piece of equipment would be best for me? Someone suggested a double-end bag or a reflex bag, as they're easier on the wrists than a heavy bag. I'm not sure if those are too technical for a beginner though...

Your thoughts would be truly appreciated!!!

    Thanks

    a heavy bag.

seriously, you won't get much in the way of a cardio workout with a speed or double ender. A speed bag will be good for your shoulders at first, but you'll soon max out, and a double end bag is more for timnig and accuracy. Get a heavy bag, but also get yourself some 12-16oz bag gloves along with some hand wraps. That should help your wrists.

The best piece of equipment I ever invested in was a work-out partner. It made road work less dull and encouraged me to push myself just a but further. Also it was inexpensive and went home when the work-out was over. No assembly required.

    Thanks, Von.

Is there a brand and size of heavy bag you'd recommend to start with?

Heavy bags are pretty much just heavy bags.
Obviously you can get better quality bags with different fillings and different weights. But unless its going to be under strenuous continuous use in a boxing gym then all of them hold up pretty well.
Get a good, medium weighted one. Because your a beginner your power will increase, so not getting one thats too light is a good idea. The heavier ones may be hard on your hands too, but again as you get more experienced this wont matter.
