But even after months and months and months of formal and informal scrutiny, there have been no demonstrated examples of systemic efforts to commit voter fraud. In fact, a review of local news reports shows there aren’t many examples of even individual voter fraud. By our count, there have been only 16 incidents in which someone has faced criminal charges stemming from their attempt to vote illegally. This includes instances in which it isn’t clear whether a ballot was cast but excludes failed efforts to obtain absentee ballots.

    Those incidents:

    • Thurman, above.
    • A man and woman from Austin who allegedly tried to vote in Illinois by claiming residence in that state. It’s not clear whether they obtained ballots.
    • A man in Lisle, Ill., who allegedly signed a ballot certification with someone else’s name.
    • A man in Carol Stream, Ill., who allegedly filled out an online ballot application for someone who shared his last name. It’s not clear whether the ballot was provided.
    • A woman in Naperville, Ill., who allegedly signed a ballot certification with someone else’s name.
    • A woman in Buckingham, Pa., who allegedly signed a ballot declaration for her dead mother.
    • A woman in Quakertown, Pa., who claims to have accidentally mailed a ballot for her mother after she died.
    • A woman from Milford, Maine, who reported herself for voting twice, once by absentee at home and once in person at college.
    • A woman from Bowdoinham, Maine, who allegedly voted with an absentee ballot for a former roommate.
    • A woman in Cedarburg, Wis., who allegedly submitted a ballot for a dead person.
    • A man in Stockton, N.J., who allegedly submitted a ballot for a dead person.
    • A man in Carteret, N.J., who allegedly voted twice with different names.
    • A man in Woodbridge, N.J., who allegedly registered at his business instead of his home.
    • A man from Media, Pa., who admitted to casting a ballot for his dead mother.
    • A man from Canton, Mich., who admitted to filling out his daughter’s ballot when she was at college.

    That’s it. That’s the total.

You’ll notice that none of these incidents hints at some deeper conspiracy. There’s no allegation that any of these people cast hundreds of ballots for their preferred candidates; in most cases, the allegation centers on casting a ballot for someone known to the person facing charges. It’s not even the case that all of these ballots were necessarily cast for Joe Biden. The man from Media, Pa., voted for Trump. In most cases, it’s not clear for whom the vote was intended.

Cheney’s rupture with the House Republican Conference has become all but final in recent days, but it has been months in the making. Edelman revealed that Cheney herself secretly orchestrated an unprecedented op-ed in the Washington Post by all ten living former Defense Secretaries, including her father, warning against Trump’s efforts to politicize the military. The congresswoman not only recruited her father but personally asked others, including Trump’s first Defense Secretary, Jim Mattis, to participate. “She was the one who generated it, because she was so worried about what Trump might do,” Edelman said. “It speaks to the degree that she was concerned about the threat to our democracy that Trump represented.” The Post op-ed appeared on January 3rd, just three days before the insurrection at the Capitol.

Rep. Liz Cheney had been arguing for months that Republicans had to face the truth about former president Donald Trump — that he had lied about the 2020 election result and bore responsibility for the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol — when the Wyoming Republican sat down at a party retreat in April to listen to a polling briefing.

The refusal to accept reality, she realized, went much deeper.

When staff from the National Republican Congressional Committee rose to explain the party’s latest polling in core battleground districts, they left out a key finding about Trump’s weakness, declining to divulge the information even when directly questioned about Trump’s support by a member of Congress, according to two people familiar with what transpired.

Trump’s unfavorable ratings were 15 points higher than his favorable ones in the core districts, according to the full polling results, which were later obtained by The Washington Post. Nearly twice as many voters had a strongly unfavorable view of the former president as had a strongly favorable one.

Cheney was alarmed, she later told others, in part because Republican campaign officials had also left out bad Trump polling news at a March retreat for ranking committee chairs. Both instances, she concluded, demonstrated that party leadership was willing to hide information from their own members to avoid the truth about Trump and the possible damage he could do to Republican House members, even though the NRCC denied any such agenda.

It is official. The only member of Congress to receive sanction over the Republicans attempt to overthrow an election and ensuing siege of the capitol is the woman who wouldn’t go along with it.

Liz Cheney got cancelled today and they're going after fact checkers in Michigan:

    https://twitter.com/ddale8/status/1392309757537574912

Early on the morning of Oct. 19, an air-conditioner repairman named David Lopez was driving his small box truck in Houston, Texas, when a black S.U.V. slammed into him from behind and forced him off the road. After the vehicles came to a stop, Lopez heard the S.U.V.’s driver scream for help. He approached the vehicle, whereupon the driver, a man named Mark Aguirre, jumped out and ordered him to the ground at gunpoint. Aguirre had been surveilling Lopez for four days, convinced that he was the mastermind of a scheme to steal the election from President Trump.

    [...]

For reasons that remain unclear, Aguirre’s investigation led him to believe that Lopez was transporting 750,000 mail-in ballots fraudulently signed by Hispanic children. Lopez was not transporting 750,000 ballots fraudulently signed by Hispanic children. The air-conditioner repairman’s truck was carrying air-conditioner repair equipment. Fifteen days later, authorities in Texas presided over an election that has yet to yield any confirmed instances of widespread fraud. Republicans won every statewide office of any consequence.

    My take on Liz:

Liz and Dick Cheney Are No American Heroes
    https://newrepublic.com/article/1609...ump-statements

what a sad ending for the republican party when the daughter of a war criminal becomes the conscious of the party.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney came up with the idea for nearly a dozen former Pentagon chiefs to write an opinion piece urging current Defense Department officials to stay out of President Trump's bid to overturn the results of the presidential election (they signed it within 2 days) I wonder how did right wing media deal with this issue? did they report on it all? If so did they take sides or did they do something they've never done- report it & let readers decide themselves?

Who signed it: Ashton Carter, Dick Cheney, William Cohen, Mark Esper, Robert Gates, Chuck Hagel, James Mattis, Leon Panetta, William Perry and Donald Rumsfeld all the 10 living former U.S. secretaries of defense signed a letter stating:

As former secretaries of defense, we hold a common view of the solemn obligations of the U.S. armed forces and the Defense Department. Each of us swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. We did not swear it to an individual or a party.

When Dick Cheney fails to speak out in public, but does so in a letter teaches me he for sure came across as evil- but he aint no fool. He writes letters with others, stoked the flame for others to call out Don, but has he done so himself? I say he knows the consequences of messing with a man who said if he shot a person randomly- he would lose NO followers.

Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin, tried to justify their family history by writing “ Never mind that he’s (Dick Cheney) a war criminal who helped make torture, black sites, and other illegal acts a routine part of American....we must heed his call as Republicans to do something about Trump.

I agree with the writer trying to figure out how she became the party's last moral one by stating: “There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution,” said the daughter of a man who facilitated the illegal invasion of Iraq and the shredding of Americans’ civil liberties.

An Anti-Cheney writer stated: Liz may have redeemed herself

Jennifer Rubin wrote that if the GOP doesn’t kick out seditionist members, “the party will continue to shed support, donors"

While I think that is true, here is what these 1/2 hearted so-called Republicans dont want to discuss: the numbers lost were replaced by the many right wing religous zealots, racists, supremacists that said themselves- they never voted because no one championed their cause until Trump. So we dont know how vast that number is, IMO. Or reason why no matter how many leave, he remains wildly popular.

Oath keepers, Qanon, Evopra, - in the beginning Aryan Brotherhood, KKK, NeoNazis openly supported him- until actions like moving the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem- bragging about low unemployment for blacks- having blacks pray over him- he lost them for the 2020 vote- how many were they? thousands, hundreds, millions who knows?

The 1st article sums up the internal war and or implosion of the Republican Party by stating the battle was
Trump's white supremacists & religous loyalists vs Right Wing warmongering neocons.

Which group do we want to come out on top to take the Republican Party over?
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!

About a year ago or less, this board was a cesspool for claiming the Democratic party was imploding right in front of our eyes.

While I didnt think so I never replied to those posts in particular because I know the truth enough to clearly state; any party pushing for the normalizing of homosexuality, any party that continues to fight for the right for illegals to come on in...is a party in need of replacing.

Yet the socialist faction (Bernie Sanders) the Progressive faction (Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren) somehow cancelled themselves out leaving old azz Joe singing Elton John's I"m STILL STANDING!!!

Joe brings in a piece of each faction and it almost appears as if democrats are united. But I know better

and as of today we here the calling for a 3rd party from the republican side of town.
Third way? Republican opponents of Donald Trump talk about forming third party

A group of disgruntled Republicans who oppose Donald Trump are demanding that their party moderate its views or face the prospect of a third-party challenge.

100 Republicans threaten to form a 3rd party

    https://ijr.com/over-100-republicans...e-third-party/
Over 100 Anti-Trump Republicans, Including Ex-Officials, Threaten To Create 3rd Party: Reports

How messed the Hell up are Republicans when they discuss divorce over reconciling differences?
When divorce is mentioned, pretty much means there is nothing to forgive, patch up, we're incompatible.

They have to know that forming a 3rd party using only Republicans is kind of akin to giving Biden a walk in for reelection. Provided he doesn't heel over & God forbid we get a black woman for POTUS. Think Obama didnt give them the right to express their feelings, Kamala is hated for (pick a reason)

She locked up her black brothers and sisters wholesale- what Republicans call for- more arrests less probation- when they do it- justice is served. When Kamala did it, throw it in the face of black people and ask us why would we elect her?

She was down for making harsh penalties on Asian hate crimes, but only mentioned it in passing for black hate crimes. Why would people hate her for her tenure as a prosecutor when she prosecuted blacks who were guilty and maybe even those who weren't?

Got to be a lot of hate inside a person to start off dislking a person who helped incarcerate black men- while voting for a party that demands the justice system gets toughZ(er) on crime.

Well Biden or Harris seems inevitbale to get the Oval Office again with the internal/infighting going on with the Republican Party.

Consider this last thought: Who is the front runner for the Republican Party in 2024 and how did it come to be?

Answering that question is like answering how many jellybeans in a jar...it aint easy.
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!

Only took a day or two to saddle On Golden Pond Biden for the gas 'hoarding' frenzy. I'm just saying..if you're pumping fuel into a bucket or plastic bags you deserve to be paying extra . Shit is crazy though. The lines are real along the East coast and people in this Country are losing our minds as we so often do lately. Takes me back to growing up in the 70's. Sitting in the back of a hot ass Station Wagon waiting for literal hours to gas up and it had to be an "odd or even" day depending to your car license plate. Fights, punching gas tanks, the good ol garden hose to syphon and the worst of us came out in those years. People need to calm the fark down. Stay prepared but don't be insane doing it. If you're putting multiple 5 gallon tanks in the trunk of your Hyundai while some dude is waiting an hour just looking to gas up for the weeks work commute..you're the problem.

Paul Krugman remains unworried about inflation, is he reliable, the NYT certainly seems left leaning.
I've been reading about what @Spicoli is experiencing with the gas. For now it is just the east coast.

As far as the jobs, yeah there is a question of how many people aren't taking jobs because of either stimulus checks or extended unemployment benefits. Many are service related and there are those who feel (iffy) working service sector during a pandemic which adds to the number of jobs needing filled.

As usual it is turned partisan- claiming liberals want to give money away- regardless of the fact they did it twice under 45 and he actually wanted to give more than Biden's $1400. Could Biden alone with a check just a month or so ago be responsible solely for the inflation? neither of the previous 2 stimulus helped rise inflation?

In other words if we're honest and ask- what would've been different had 45 got another term- he stated:
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/zackfri...h=4ffda44b2e06
President Donald Trump wants you to get a $2,000 stimulus check.

Congress already passed a stimulus package of $600 for each individual and $1,200 for each couple. Calling these stimulus checks “ridiculously low,” Trump now wants Congress to scrap $600 stimulus checks and instead approve $2,000 stimulus checks.

As far as unemployment - it is difficult IMO to dispute that 45 wouldn't have extended unemployments benefits as he did it once before:

So no matter who got in office, free money aka socialism was at the top of the agenda. & Now Republicans claim they wouldn't have done what 45 campaigned on- more stimulus and extended UE.

side note- curious what you or anyone gets when you type on youtube:
trump wants to extend unemployment benefits

    vs

Fox news trump wants to extend unemployment benefits

when I type the 1st I get videos relevant to trump signing Unemployment compensation.
when I type in the 2nd- all I see are videos of Biden or videos of nobodies claiming how this hurts small businessess or Mitch McConnell acosting him or everything not related to POTUS45.

When POTUS 45 gave out free money, FOX touted this as a compassionate conservative taking care of America. Now it's killing America.

edit- NY Times is the stepchild, the whipping boy. Republicans bash it for news, then herald it as the best for buying books.
OH, Trump's son or daughter had a number one seller.
    where?
    NY Times!

IMO it is like every other newspaper that can give 3 sides to one story.
front page gives the top stories.
and somewhere inside like the Miami Herald or Milwaukee Journal, Chicago Tribune there will be a commentary section for & dissent.
In other words if front page staes 7 killed in shooting, then story 2 will be a liberal blaming guns, story 3 will be a conservative blaming criminals, not the guns.

Right Wingers in my bold opinion usually take the editorial story and claim that is the entire way the newspaper functions. In the Journal Sentinel it is called the crossroads section where they state- this is the review or opinion & in no way reflects the newspapers standing on the issue presented.
    https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=M...tion&FORM=EWRE

San Jose Mercury news, Wallstreet journal are a few others you can compare or balance with NY Times.

That's the real unfortunate part. People in general (not all, of course) tend to be ok while everything's honky dory. As soon as a crisis rears its ugly head, the bolded part of what you said tends to happen. Too many examples and instances to think otherwise. Fistfighting over facemasks. Hoarding gas with no regard for the neighbor. Storming Capitol buildings and then lying about it. Rushing to the polar extremes EVERY TIME there is an issue to address.

Which is why I love memes like this one.

    Good posting slimmy..

Never read the wall street journal and Iver never heard of the San Jose mercury, I'll look into that.. I think I will give a Canadian perspective a go next though, will give the old globe and mail a trial subscription.. Krugman Wonks Out: Return of the Monetary Cockroaches https://nyti.ms/3odz4gZ

Paul Krugman remains unworried about inflation, is he reliable, the NYT certainly seems left leaning.

You can't tell anything from one month's figures especially when everything is upside down like it is at the minute. It'll take a few months for things to shake out and for an accurate picture of things to emerge.

That Krugman NYT link is pretty good. What he doesn't mention is that Wall Street has an interest in hyping inflation at the minute to help them shift a load of products and services onto their customers and sell a load of shit to investors. Journalists love writing inflation scare stories because they get lots of clicks and the GOP have an interest in hyping anything they think will damage Biden.

Like Krugman says we had this ten years ago. After the financial meltdown a lot of prominent Wall Streeters were predicting massive inflation, Krugman said what he's saying now and laid out the evidence to back it up. The Wall Street Journal did a big article, Krugman or Gross, who are you going to bet on? They had a photograph of Bill Gross, billionaire bond king standing in front of one of his mansions and one of Krugman cycling to work looking like a garden gnome in a bike helmet. The article was mocking this ivory tower idiot thinking he knew better than Wall Street's finest. A few years later Gross and his mates were all out of work or lost all their investors. Krugman has been proved right:

    https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v43/...the-gatekeeper

If he's been running a find ten years ago he'd have made billions.

As far as the extra unemployment benefits stopping people from taking jobs there's probably some of that going on although the numbers don't really show anything conclusive and you can't tell anything from one month of data. And the NYT does lean left but left is where all the facts and evidence are these days. Economic policy on the right, such as it is, has been to give tax cuts to the top one percent. They've done this for forty years and it doesn't work although the purpose of doing so isn't for it to work, it's so the top one percent don't pay much in tax. The left spend money with their childcare and their infrastructure and so on but the purpose of all this spending is to actually invest in and grow the economy and make it more equitable. There's a purpose to it believe it or not. The GOP are simply funded by billionaires to get into power and give the billionaires big tax cuts. The economy grows despite what they do, not because of it.

Here's another one. The sixteen above come from only a few states. There must be two or three in every state. Probably closer to two hundred than a hundred.

Some points here. The hackers actually got paid. Five million according to Bloomberg. The pipeline people could have kept pumping but shut down because their systems were fucked and they couldn't meter how much they were giving to customers so wouldn't know how much to bill them. Ransomware like this can only work due to the existence of cryptocurrencies. If they ban them this kind of thing can't happen. Less than a year ago we had negative gasoline futures. You could take delivery of as much as you wanted for free and even a small payment as long as you had enough plastic bags to store it in.
