    Great stuff!

Didn't have the big Pascal-Kov fight so I watched some old stuff: Frazier vs Ellis..again.

Did any of you guys know that Frazier used Ken Norton in sparring? 1st time I listened to the post-fight per Cosell, Frazier said he knew he could beat Ellis because he had the fastest & strongest sparring partners to prepare him and then named Norton.

I use to wonder why Frazier never fought Norton, maybe they were friends?

More trivia only experts would know.

    1. We all know George Foreman as "Big George" - but it wasn't just a nickname: at 6'4'' and ranging from 220-260lbs during his career, Foreman was quite a large man, even by HW standards.

    2. We've all heard of Joe Louis' "Bum of the Month" club, but what most people don't know is that the guys he fought weren't actually homeless drifters - the term "bum" in the context of boxing is a term given to fighters who aren't very good.

    3. Most people know that Mike Tyson was the youngest HW champion in boxing history, but this wasn't by accident. Being a young champion is something both Tyson and his mentor/trainer Cus Damato wanted.

While watching the Kovalev Pascal fight at the weekend it was noted that Bernard Hopkins who was commentating on the fight had not only fought both Kovalev and Pascal in his professional career but had also fought both fighters trainers, Roy Jones Jnr and John David Jackson.

    That blew my mind!

That's pretty cool. Lots of connections there. It was funny seeing Roy Jones working the same corner as Russ Anber. 17 years ago, Russ had to enter the ring and save his fighter Otis Grant from Jones.

Cassius Clay had his Driver's License suspended numerous times.

The State of South Carolina deemed him a 'menace on the highway'.

Two ton tony galento grew up 3 blocks from me in Orange, NJ. He lived on a little street off Scotland Road called Clinton Place, but it was renamed Tony Galento Blvd. And Two-Ton Plaza is on the corner. İtalian Riviera Foods was still there in 1999 when İ interviewed the son of the owner Salvatore Scafidi who told me his father would sell 6 roast chickens and a big tray of lasagne to Galento every night at midnight during his last 10 days of training before fights.

In the 1980's, I dated this girl who lived down the street from the Martin Luther King center-where some guys used to train to box. One day she jealousy went through my school bag to see if there were any other girls phone numbers- Once convinced I was faithful-she commented on how many Ring magazines I had in my bag.
To that she replied you must like that Bruce guy? Bruce who?

One week later I found out the guy Bruce who lived on the same block as her- fought Sugar Ray Leonard. His name is Bruce Finch. Well I'm sure he fought the best he could.
About a year later, when I was aware boxers trained @ the center I would always run into this tall guy who sometimes had welps or a black eye.
His name is Gerald McCellan. Once he turned pro- he started giving black eyes.

Did you guys know that Tim Witherspoon's nephew boxed HW? Chazz Witherspoon. His first lost was to Arreola.

Real cool family. Tim's cousin, Eric Witherspoon has a brother who went on to become one of R&B's best groups in the 1980's & 1990's. His brother is Larry Blackmon, to which Tim would be Larry's cousin as well, serious. Word UP!

    Browsing Ring February 1980.
1915 a fight between Ted kid Lewis vs Jack Britton.
Britton pointed at Lewis's mouth. Hey he got something in his mouth. Referee Patsey Haley stated that is as illegal as wearing head gear. It was thrown out. After the fight trainers came together to protest the right to protect their fighters dental health.
Under the questions and answers column.
