    Default Farewelling 'The Ghost'

I was pretty disappointed to hear about Kelly Pavlik's retirement, but if that's the way he feels it's for the best. Here's hoping he can stay of the booze and have a long and happy retirement with his family.

That's a real shame. I think he had severely underrated boxing skill, and I think he could have done a lot more in the sport if he kept his personal demons in check.

I'm annoyed with him and think it is somewhat pathetic. Pavliks negative mind has taken over and unless he gets big fights he gives up and that happened here with Bute and Ward falling through. He has a chip on his shoulder and in retiring has a good reason to rail. There were obvious other paths though. Pavlik retiring now is an awful decision. The very fact that he is declaring it after 2 fights were not made is too obvious. Its all about never being given his fair chance, which is true, but staying busy is the other truth.

So he's no different from David Haye then, or the majority of people in this country I would imagine.

If I were in a position where financially I didn't have to do the job that I'm doing now, do you think I would do it? I might work again, but I would pick and choose whatever motivated me.

I read Pavlik was offered 50k for a fight not long ago. Take away tax, manager's fee, and other deductions and I doubt I would be motivated to enter a grueling two month camp to prepare. Make it a million, and I would reconsider. Sounds sensible to me.

It really sounds like Pavlik does not have the heart for boxing and when a fighter is more concerned about his health and well being then you know his focus of fighting is not there any more.

Pavlik has made the right decision. I do hope he does not come back 5 years from now, I hope he stays retired.

He has had enough,Pavlik is not the same fighter he was and never will be.
I just hope he does not make a comeback in a year or two.Thats if we can
recognise him ,he will be covered head to toe in tats.

Ta Ta for now see you in the next year or 2. Maybe he will be on an undercard of an Evander Holyfield or David Haye card.

thing is, realistically he wasn't gonna ever really reach the level he once was at, so the void would always be there, now by calling it quits at least he's leaving without taking anymore physical punishment caused in the ring, I wish him luck and hope he has a good life

Was Pavlik an over achiever or under achiever?

    Under achiever.
Thats what I think but read in boxing new mag that someone thought he overachieved considering he was knocked down by Miranda and Taylor but got up to win.

Over achiever before Hopkins, an under achiever after.
This is just my opinion, I've never read anything along this line, but I think he lost faith in his trainer and himself after Hopkins.
I'm not saying he would have beaten Martinez if he hadn't fought Hopkins first. I'm saying the Hopkins fight should never have happened, it was a capital error.
