    Default Jimmy Carter

His presidency was before my time and I haven't agreed with a lot of his politics but he truly seems like a decent human who has done a lot of positive for the world. He gave a news conference this am in which he related his cancer spread to his brain. He was quite funny in his conference but it also seemed he was saying good bye. The gentleman is 91. I wish him the best, I know his presidency is looked upon poorly but he has done a lot of good works.

A military man, a businessman, a church man, a politician and a humanitarian.

He was never great at anyone thing, but he always gave a great effort.

I saw him one time. Driving by some houses that he and others were building in the central city of Milwaukee.
I thought to myself, wow, he didn't have to come here and physically help out. But he made his point: if he can, why cant the men in the community do the same.

As a man he must be celebrated for his charity work.....as a politician I despised him because his views and policies he put in place, well intentioned though they may have been were horrible.

Shame really, horrible way to go but he is amazingly still looking upbeat. My old man was apart of that ill fated Rh-53 team off of the Nimitz, never got over why they left assets and dead behind but no bitter words for Carter. They estimate he has 10 weeks?

Of course. An American President has cancer and we have nothing good to say, especially those deregulatory acts to the transportation industry which included the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 and the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 , the Staggers Act that his successor continued- and thus given full credit for the idea of deregulation.

    How dare a Democrat deregulate

It is like Labour were the first to privatise the NHS, just unforgivable.

Your pops was in Operation Eagle Claw or whatever the name of it was with the Iran hostage crisis?

He's 90 years old, every day he's been hopping out of bed since 75-80 (roughly) has been a "free day". Everyone passes at some point and with Reagan, Ford, and Nixon all gone well it's not a surprise his health is failing.....granted George H. W. Bush is 91 and recently broke his neck or back or some crazy shit like that so I wouldn't be surprised if he passes soon as well.

He was bud, career long air crew from the Huey to Sea stallion. They were put on rapid deployment and those Rh-53 were converted mine countermeasures chosen based on fuel capacity and load. The irony is they were meant to be destroyed on site when mission complete but the 5 were left intact for the Iranians to scoop up. More so..we had just sold six(?) to Iran before the 79' revolution.

Wow..... sad to hear about Jimmy Carter being ill with cancer. My best wishes to him and his family.

As far as his presidency, Carter was largely viewed as a wimp. I would say foreign politics probably wasn't a subject he got an "A" on, and leave it at that. That said, it's amusing how most former U.S. presidents, with the onset of old age, are all viewed as great statesmen, regardless of how their presidency went. Well..... except for George W. Bush, who I doubt will be viewed that way at all.
