I just hope he can recover, he's got a place in boxing royalty now, but still needs a big pay day to retire on.
So let me get this straight.
Martinez broke his hand on Chavez's melon head in the 4th round... he also suffered torn knee ligaments.... and STILL he managed to kick Junior's ass while giving him the boxing lesson of his life. All this while making half what Junior made for the fight.
Shit! Imagine what he would've done to Junior without those injuries.
Just the thought of it almost makes me wish for a rematch.
"Almost"....... though, because Junior doesn't fucking deserve a rematch.
That might be why he stayed down in pain when Chavez leaned his body (20lbs+) on his back, causing him to collapse on the floor.

Did you know that Junior refused to get on the scales at fight time. It is rumored that Junior weighed 185. If the WBC rule is put in place for same day weigh ins, Junior can't fight at middleweight any longer. Roach talked about Junior moving up in weight. Martinez weighed 167.
Did not know that, but not at all surprised. Why should he? He did his job. He stepped on the scales the day before, looking slightly anemic and with a weirdly sucked-in stomach. Once in the ring, he looked twice the size of Martinez. The only division where this should be allowed is heavyweight, which is open-ended. Roach talked about Junior moving up in weight? What a surprise! Now there's a fucking no-brainer. Junior should be at cruiserweight or light heavy, banging with guys his own size. I would venture to bet that his record would quickly become quite ordinary.

I think fighters often come into fights not 100% healthy and some get injured during the fight that can affect their performance. A broken hand would do that and the damaged knee would explain why Sergio stood there in the last round. He must have got through the fight on adrenalin alone, similar to Bradley with 2 broken feet against Manny.
