    Default Little Advice

    Hi there,

I've been a boxing fan for sometime now and have always been a keen admirer of the heart, commitment and determination required in self discipline which is why I would like to incorporate this into my life by joining a gym. My only problem is that I've got a bad eye condition which doesn't stop me from card but would rule me out of any sparing and was just wondering would any boxing gym be willing to take someone on who couldn't fight for medical reasons?

    Thanks

I'm sure there are some gyms that will take you and design a work out program minus the sparring. It would be a great physical conditioning program and you can work out on the bags. For their own protection, they may require you to take a comprehensive physical, and present a letter from your doctor stating what you can, and what you can not do in physical exercise. You will also be expected to sign a waiver. We have occasionally had people come to our gym with limitations, and have been able to accomodate them. One guy who was an electrician, was so appreciative, and loved just being part of the gym, that he did a lot of free wiring and electrical work for us.

Where are you located Sweeny? We have tons of members at our gym that never spar at all, but participate in everything else.

You should check out a gym near you and talk to the trainers there. A lot of gyms run free conditioning classes and stuff too that you should be able to participate in.

Us too at the gym where I started training.

No one sparred unless a) they were ready and b) they REALLY wanted to do so.

Most people did boxing as exercise. Half of those would work at sharing sparring and such, but only a few actually sparred much less fought.

Ask you doctor for your limits and cover them carefully with your boxing coach.

If he is not interested, go find another gym.

Only a third of our boxers spar and it's completely optional.
