This a horrible question considering all the songs that exist.
For me: A day in the Life.
It is perfect.

There is no such thing, but they were not bad for four Indian lads with a plan
The Beatles

Greatest? Man. I'd go with "Let it Be" or "A Day in the Life".
My favorite? "Norwegian Wood" or "Day Tripper"
Yeah it's an impossible question. As soon as I posted that I thought of more songs I love by them.
I'm sure I'm breaking no ground in saying they produced a ridiculous amount of good shit.
Love me do.

Impossible question to name best song \ single
Best album is easy though - The Anthology Box Set
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
Twist and Shout.
Okay scrap the best song, what was the best album?
For me The White Album.
Let's look at it from another angle.
The Beatles songs are classic songs, good songs, catchy songs, cutting edge at the time, but how deep are the songs, especially during the 1st few years?
Despite all their positive points, they still seem like lightweight fluff to me nowadays; I know some folks may scream "Sacrilege" over that declaration. But hey, these dudes were all in their early 20s at the time; how deep could they be?
The early stuff is fun songs, but where's the depth? Some of these early songs are just too saccharine sweet. They were a 60s band, no longevity. By the end of the decade, their songs were gaining more depth as they seasoned, and it was more solid music with more backbone, but then they broke up.
I think John Lennon's subsequent solo work trumped all the Beatles stuff.
There was serious depth there, there was some heavyweight material of real substance there. Classic timeless music, whereas Beatles music is dated.
Whaddya think ?
Sure much of the early stuff was me, you, do, true, when it came to lyrics, but albums like A Hard Day's Night were just so much fun. I still enjoy all that in the right mood.
Post Beatles I think Lennon took it the furthest of all followed by Harrison, McCartney seemed to lose his muse. Albums like Plastic Ono Band and All Things Must Pass are incredible.
I disagree, I think the Beatles will be timeless music. I put the quality up their with Beethoven etc. One of my all time favorite songs is Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite. It shows how unique they could be. Favorite Album today I agree with Milesman, The White Album. You have songs like Honey pie, Helter Skeltor and Why Don't We Do It in The Road. What other band had such incredible range.
Same reasons here too, Walrus. Just great tunes and variation on there.
Their first stuff was mostly garbage, bubble gum pop of it's time, but that can be said for most great artists as it takes time to come into your own artistically. It's what they did at their peak that mattered, which is incredible work.
My favorite Beatles album: Rubber Soul
Best: Sgt. Pepper's
