Cotto vs. Margarito Failing To Generate Interest

I think this guy is talking out of his ass on this one, very rarely will you get the casual fan to recognize most fighters names who arent Delahoya/Tyson/Lewis/Holyfield... The hardcor boxing fan is all amped up about this one

I heard that who have fault of this issue was Bob Arum , he appparently didnt make a good Promotion of this fight in Las Vegas , also Margaro have his most fans right there , Cotto/Gomez fight sold more thickets and was with more interest for the fans.......

Should have been in Atlantic City. They had it in Vegas because of the gloves I remember? That's unfortunate.

If they can't sell out like 9000 seats in Vegas then that's a shame. Hopefully after the countdown show and as we approach the fight people wise up.

I think a lot of this goes back to the non boxing people liking heavyweights thing. Which is retarded imo.
Im pumped for this fight and hope its as good as i think its going to be.

    Fuck the general public imo.

All I know is this is one fight I have wanted to happen for a long time; so my interest is 100%. Not to mention all my fellow Saddonian's are interested, so I don't really care what some "casual" fan thinks. They won't pay for the fight anyways.

I still don't believe Margarito puts butts in seats. The draw is Cotto. If I'm not mistaken, Margarito has never been on PPV. Even with the new and improved Kermit Cintron he couldn't get a PPV show. And that's why Mayweather didn't want to fight him. Margarito is his own double-edged sword: a threat who garners very little interest.

    nop

vegas was the only place that wudnt let um use 8oz, the fight was gunna be in AC IF NAC didn't amend their rules and let the fighters use 8oz instead of their usual 10oz requirement.

They ruled that fighters from now on at that weight can now fight with 8oz gloves, however if one of the fighters doesn't want this then they both must use the usual 10oz gloves.

Yeah that's how I remember it Preme. Unfortunate, I think Atlantic City would have been a great place for this to happen. I know Vegas is a fight town, so how they couldn't sell tickets to this is beyond me.

Margarito has been on PPV before. The first Kermit Cintron fight was on ESPN PPV, he was on the Cotto-Mosley undercard and if I'm not mistaken his fight with Shotgun Gomez was Top Rank PPV.

This is all true, and this is why I felt all along that Arum was getting too greedy by putting this fight in Vegas. Cotto is the draw here, and he has an established loyal fanbase in NYC. If this fight were at Madison Square Garden or Atlantic City, they wouldn't be having problems selling tickets.

Instead, Arum moved the fight 3,000 miles away from NYC, and with a bad economy right now, people aren't going to spend the money to fly cross-country to Vegas where it's about 115 degrees outside in July.

C'mon, undercard doesn't count. Neither does ESPN PPV.
