I try only to use 'great' in context. Griffith was great, and is a sad loss to the sport.

Sad news R.I.P
Got his picture on the wall in front of me, signed when he visited Windsor a few years ago, glad to have met him.
Be at peace champion, and thank you!
So weird I was watching this on my youtube playlists yesterday.

You say tomato,
‘n I say …… it correctly.
R.I.P champ. A reluctant genius. Truly great fighter.
A good friend of mine sparred hundreds of rounds with him in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Always spoke very highly of him, said that he was not only a great fighter, but a gentleman as well.
Often when someone dies, although not direct criticism, the measure of the person can be answered by those who choose not to speak about them. For what it is worth (an awful lot, I think), seemingly anyone who knew or was connected to Griffith, has come out basically with your sentiments...
