    Default Ok Question

Im just back in to training
But Ive got a cheap shot at some dirt/ball fighting this weekend
I look at it,as win lose or draw, ring time
Sparring with money on the line
    Opinions
BTW/This sounds like the lowest end of the boxing totem pole, below even Rough And Rowdys

Do you know what kind of match you're likely to get?

When you say cheap shot do you mean inexperienced opponent?

I guess there's no shame in it - your opponent's trainer should throw the towel in if his boy is getting hurt too bad.

I would decide based on how your feel physically - no chance of rolling the ankle or anything? It there's a risk you might be set back due to reaggrivating an injury because you need to go hard when you might otherwise go easy then I'd leave it a bit longer.

You might be POed if you roll your ankle in a fight that otherwise wouldn't mean much to you or be very fulfilling.

    Actually,thats a very valid point
If something goes wrong(its the ring, s happens) Id be setting back training for a fight I want in November for essentially a charity gig on short notice

Go for it... you're just as likely to injure yourself sparring or training in the long term any way. It'll give you a refresher of what it's like on fight day/the night before...

I though when you first joined here, you said you were a trainer for a woman fighter? Do you fight as well?

And thats all I was,for a long time, but all the time around the ring again, especially as she got closer to fighting, inspired me to use the last few years I have in my 30s to get back in the ring myself.Nothing big, just small time stuff locally. If for no other reason,to see what I still have left in the tank.
Call Stallone,I gotta an idea for a film

You strike me as the kinda guy that can't mess about round the outside of the ring for too long. Its like too tempting for you. You just wanna be inside that ring.

Ive gone from Philly trained boxer,to Ed Parker Ken-Po,to Midevil Live Martial Arts,to Training,to thinking,Im not that old am I?I mean I taught them how to do all that crap.
I view it all as chess, with bruises
    I love chess
    I love outhinking my opponent
The only non martial sport I was ever any good at,was baseball.I pitched, where its not just ability, youve got to outhink the guy at the plate
    Just my nature I suppose

i have making weight for a fight just to have it called off,

Other times you make weight and then your opponent doesn't anyway.

I had an opponent weigh in 5 kg overweight and her trainer told my coach it was just because she was "on her monthlys" in a hushed voice.

My trainer fell for it but I was POed. It was just after my birthday and I had missed out on celebration food etc and I told her that - she said she ate chocolate cake on the plane which flew her in from interstate for the fight!

I won in the end but was soooooo annoyed. For all the trainers of female fighters don't ever believe a period accounts for more than 2 kg weight max. Someone my size it's more like 1 kg - never 5kg.
