Would live to see The Klits in with any past great, Ali, Tyson, Foreman, Fraizer, Lewis. See how good they really are
I'm going to try and just use a fighter 1 time because otherwise I'd list 1,000 fights and wouldn't be able to get your opinions on them.
'Iron' Mike Tyson vs Riddick 'Big Daddy' Bowe - Good style matchup and around the time Mike got released from prison it would have been a very even match
Evander 'Real Deal' Holyfield vs Ron Lyle - 2 tough sons a bitches prime for prime it would have been a war in the ring!
Michael 'MM' Moorer vs Andrew Golota - a boxer/puncher with some confidence problems vs a solid technical boxer with very little mental toughness
'The Acorn' Earnie Shavers vs David 'The Terminator' Tua 2 huge punchers, 2 smallish heavyweights, would it even last 4 rounds?
'Relentless' Lamon Brewster vs Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock power vs power, stamina and a chin vs a guy who was hit or miss
'The White Wolf' Sergei Lyakhovich vs Tommy 'The Duke' Morrison a good solid boxer vs a slugger
Lennox Lewis vs 'The Easton Assassin' Larry Holmes - 2 pugilist specialists who are both consistently overshadowed by Mike Tyson (but they were greater).
'Dr. Ironfist' Vitali Klitschko vs 'The President' Ike Ibeabuchi - I picked this matchup based on the hypothetical greatness of each guy who you could argue missed their primes due to injury (or brain dysfunction)
'Dr. Steel Hammer' Wladimir Klitschko vs 'Terrible' Tim Witherspoon - The current heavyweight champ vs a guy who fought Larry Holmes (a fighter much like Wlad) tooth and nail!
'Smokin' Joe Frazier vs 'Black Heracles' Ken Norton - Pressure fighter vs a very strong guy who was not known for his chin.
'The Brockton Blockbuster' Rocky Marciano vs Floyd Patterson This fight almost happened, prime for prime would have been a hell of a scrap.
'The Brown Bomber' Joe Louis vs 'Manassa Mauler' Jack Dempsey A cold calculating stalk you down power puncher vs a wild haymaker throwing frothing at the mouth tiger of a fighter
'Big' George Foreman vs Nicolay Valuev....it would be fun...it would
Michael 'Dynamite' Dokes vs Chris 'Rapid Fire' Byrd two of the best defensive fighters of their era...who would win between them
Charles 'Sonny' Liston vs 'Smokin' Bert Cooper Power vs power, similar sized heavyweights
Shannon 'The Cannon' Briggs vs 'The Nigerian Nightmare' Sam Peter - they talked about fighting but never got around to it. Would have been a hell of a scrap at one point in time.
Sooooo.....ummmm you guys care to pick some winners of those fights I listed?
'Iron' Mike Tyson vs Riddick 'Big Daddy' Bowe - prime for prime I pick Tyson, but if we're going 90's I'd take Bowe.
Evander 'Real Deal' Holyfield vs Ron Lyle - Holyfield by TKO
Michael 'MM' Moorer vs Andrew Golota - Moorer by KO
'The Acorn' Earnie Shavers vs David 'The Terminator' Tua - Tua by BRUTAL ko
'Relentless' Lamon Brewster vs Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock - Razor Ruddock
'The White Wolf' Sergei Lyakhovich vs Tommy 'The Duke' Morrison - Morrison
Lennox Lewis vs 'The Easton Assassin' Larry Holmes - That's a hard one for me. I'll go with Holmes in a very close decision, won through his superior jab
'Dr. Ironfist' Vitali Klitschko vs 'The President' Ike Ibeabuchi - Vitali all day
'Dr. Steel Hammer' Wladimir Klitschko vs 'Terrible' Tim Witherspoon - Wlad all day
'Smokin' Joe Frazier vs 'Black Heracles' Ken Norton - Joe Frazier for sure
'The Brockton Blockbuster' Rocky Marciano vs Floyd Patterson - I'll go with Marciano but I think Patterson has a much better chance than people would give him credit for
'The Brown Bomber' Joe Louis vs 'Manassa Mauler' Jack Dempsey - Louis by brutal smashing
'Big' George Foreman vs Nicolay Valuev - Foreman
Michael 'Dynamite' Dokes vs Chris 'Rapid Fire' Byrd - Byrd
Charles 'Sonny' Liston vs 'Smokin' Bert Cooper - Liston
Shannon 'The Cannon' Briggs vs 'The Nigerian Nightmare' Sam Peter - Briggs
I agree with pretty much all your predictions, except for Witherspoon vs Klitschko. Witherspoon in his prime was pretty damn good, with a solid jab and a great fight hand to boot.
I think once he lands that crushing right hand on Klitschko its all over, plus Witherspoon in his prime was pretty durable i think he could take what Klitschko dished out.
Interesting picks....I agree with some of them but not all. I think a Prime Ron Lyle is one of the most dangerous fighters ever certainly the best fighter to never win the title. I think he could get to Evander who got hurt more than a few times.
I think Lamon Brewster beats Ruddock too because the man just had a granite chin and Ruddock was apt to leave himself open to counters as the Morrison fight proved.
Morrison would have a hell of a time vs Liakhovich due to Sergei's solid boxing ability it would be a brawl though.
Holmes v Foreman – Holmes schooling big George
Rocky v Dempsey – war of attrition with Rocky comming out a bloody winner
Lennox v Wlad – battle of the jabs and boxing skills with Lennox getting a stoppage mid way.
Tyson v Fraiser – war in a telephone booth with Tyson’s boxing and defensive skills stopping Joe.
Louis v Tunney – out boxed early but Joe catches up and bombs out Gene to a late stoppage.
Spinks v Patterson – speed and skill with Spinks nicking the fight
Jack Johnson v John Sullivan – Johnson is a bloody 25 round fight followed by race riots.
PS
Cooney v Morrison – battle of the left hooks and who lands first, I say Cooney
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Witherspoon was a handful for sure, and if we're talking Wlad of 2004 or before, I can see Tim getting to him.
But I just don't see Tim outfoxing the Wlad of the past several years, and I wouldn't give him anything more than a puncher's chance against Wlad.
And yeah he was durable, but so is Ray Mercer and Wlad got to him. But it's an interesting fight either way. Tim is severely underrated.
Randall 'Tex' Cobb vs John 'The Quiet Man' Ruiz.....I know I know, boring yes but also fairly even
Ray Mercer was past his prime though, a prime Tim Witherspoon is a whole different story. Funnily enough Mercer fought Witherspoon when he was past his prime, and Witherspoon basically went dead even with him in an underrated fight.
Klitschko maybe more defensive but i still question his confidence, when he gets hit by a solid fighter with good power in Witherspoon will he crumble ? Witherspoon has proven he can take shots for the full distance has Klitschko ?
No matter what anyone tells me about Klitschko, i still think he's an accident waiting to happen. And with Witherspoon's crushing overhand right which is best weapon against taller opponents, i see Witherspoon connecting and Klitschko crumbling under the pressure.
