Default Stephen Hawking (1942-2018) Rest in Peace

Stephen Hawking: Visionary physicist dies aged 76

Stephen William Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA (8 January 1942 – 14 March 2018) was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge.

His scientific works included a collaboration with Roger Penrose on gravitational singularity theorems in the framework of general relativity and the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, often called Hawking radiation. Hawking was the first to set out a theory of cosmology explained by a union of the general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics.

No i'll leave this one so people can chat seriously about him, my thread is twinned with Jim Bowen anyway.
Didn't really know much about Stephen Hawking but watched the Hollywood movie a few years ago and was pretty gobsmacked at what he overcame physically.

Hearing some good/funny stories about him over TV and Radio.

Commentator says "if there are infinite universes then in one of them would I be more intelligent than you?"

Stephen Hawkins says "yes and there is one where you are actually funny".

His daughter said he loved the media and limelight which is good because more people became interested in Science.

Great acting in Big Bang as well.

I was gutted when I heard about it, a brief history of time is a fantastic read, it was aimed at someone who has no knowledge of scientific theories but it definitely helps if you have a strong interest and have some knowledge of the shit he goes into.

I actually blame him for my obsession with space, the universe, multiverse, aliens and especially black holes, them things fucking amaze me.

For instance the last few nights I've been watching documentaries on the simulation theory and the precise value of nothing, just last week I spent 3 hours watching documentaries about time.

Cheers Stephen for turning me into a full on geek

Radio presenter said he could not get past page 30 because it was too hard.

I heard a story from years back that was hilarious.
Hawking was on some American tv chat show once and the show's host asked him which part of America he was from purely because his speech computer sounds American

Scandinavia, America and Scotland were the 3 people claimed.

It was custom made for him by Intel which is why it sounds more American.
