In a ring, a 12 rounder and normal boxing rules. You have no idea who the other guy is going to pick (except it will be a boxer)

And it's P4P. At the boxers Peak.

    Let's say firstly fighters - since 1990

    Then - All time

    _______

I think mine would be Floyd (as much as I hate him)

All time wise it's tougher - probably unappreciative of Robinson etc due to my age (27) but maybe Floyd as well, based on my personal knowledge of watching him fight live - maybe SRL - toughie

What about you guys? Does Ali make anyones list?

Roy Jones would be the best fighter I have ever seen in my lifetime. There have been other top fighters like JCC Superstar or Sweet Pea, Tyson, Norris, Tito, Lopez who have been dominate but none better than Roy. He would beat anyone my opponent would put in front of him.

Jones was another consideration - Floyd just pipped him for me based on his ability to adapt and seeing how perfect his reaction when he was actually hurt (vs mosley) was - despite never having been hurt like that in his entire career. That was almost as impressive as some of his peak wins in many ways for me.

The style nightmare for floyd in my mind is someone like Hearns - but obviously if you're picking just one guy - you wouldn't be going with Tommy based on his weaknesses

Yep. Floyd as dull as he is would be my pick. Would be more confident in him scoring a UD over anyone than an 80s Tyson taking someone out.

Floyd was very impressive after getting hurt by Shane and won the next 10 rounds with flawless and perfect boxing but that was an old Shane and a peak one at lightweight would give Floyd problems as would Duran and Henry Armstrong.

If Masters life depended on it I'd choose Pele Reid

I'd pick David Price, as I have a death wish.

Why are we all assuming it's a boxing match? If it was just a no holds barred streetfight, I would go for someone like James J Jeffries. The Boilermaker was renowned for walking through savage beatings before wearing down his opponents.

His heart and courage were tested more than just about any fighter in history, no quit in this guy. He was also a magnificent athlete and a true GIANT for his times.

I'd like James J to be watching my back anytime.

So that means same weight classes right? Like if I pick SRR they can't pick Lennox Lewis?

I'd be tempted to pick Floyd if you didn't say "prime" because then Floyd would have to fight a guy in his prime and I'm no so confident about that.

I Like @Master answer so I'm going to copy it. Prime roy Jones JR was one of the best ever. James Toney and I are from the same home town so hes been my favourite boxer forever, and the way RJJ obliterated him was unreal.

This is quite a silly thread, but a good one. I'd have to also vote prime Roy Jones as he is the greatest of all time. Ali in his prime can't be dismissed either as he seemed to fight as though his life depended on it. Pernell Whitaker in his prime with fair judging is another near lock.
