    Facts are facts and I can know how much people pay in council tax or US property tax with a cursory Internet search or by reading a few articles. You also fail to consider that not everyone lives in a major city or even wants to. Good property can be found in more rural areas at a reasonable cost.

    I am awaiting Grey to tell us of the property prices in the area where people pay more than half the average income on property tax. I am guessing they have very expensive property and income that can pay to maintain a lifestyle.
    @walrus @El Kabong

    What are the property taxes in your areas?

    Not really. Lyle says there is plenty of good land at a reasonable cost in the states. If you want to pay a million dollars for 3 bedrooms in an overinflated modern city apartment, then that tends to skew prices somewhat. If the average price is say 300,000 then the ordinary person is typically paying less and unlikely to be living in a ghetto.

    As you saw in the data above a 300,000 dollar home is not going to cost you 30,000 dollars a year. It would be around 6-7 thousand dollars region dependent of course, so just maybe rates are higher in Chicago. Have you lived in Chicago? How would you find out? The US is a big country and thus the Internet is useful. It shows that the US system is more progressive than the British one too, but still very expensive considering the infrastructure out there.

    Do you think it is a good thing to pay so much or a bit of a rip off?

    Some more, some less, but seemingly so unless the site is fake news and for far less in tax than Fats was saying. Less than half in fact.

    I think he was saying that you can find a cheaper home than 200,000, but it would likely be in a slum and for taxes twice what the tax predictor states.

    I think he was being hyperbolic. I think the houses for 8,000 dollars are probably best avoided, but there are likely nice neighborhoods with nice properties at a reasonable 200,000 or even less.

    There are no 200,000 properties since 1990

    Try 500,000 and up[/QUOTE]

    That's not how I read the quote.

    Land is readily available it's just if that's where you WANT to live and what that means for your lifestyle.

    Yeah, trailer parks or 50 miles from civilization and jobs, if you want it.

    That does sound even more hyperbolic. Granted I have never been to Baltimore, but houses appear to be reasonably priced. You get a house, space above below and besides and a garden. And looking at some of the inside pictures some look really nicely upgraded. One looks shabby from the outside, but has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms for less than 300,000. A small family wouldn't need the space so could easily go cheaper. Looks splendid. Maybe the area sucks, I don't know, but in terms of value seems within reason.

    As long as you avoid mega cities, America seems reasonable to me. Not so bad really.

    So you were wrong again. Not making a very good track record for yourself. Try thinking before you post.
